  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Looking to get some thoughts and opinions on performance chip for my 2018 G80 3.8 sedan none turbo. Has anyone tried them and who would you recommend.

I bought my 2018 G80 last year and did a deep dive to find out what options are available for our N/A 3.8 and the answer is...NOT MUCH.

Each individual mod will offer slight improvements in torque and HP, and the combination can provide a bit more "oomph" but the 3.3T (shared by the Kia Stinger and G70) have MUCH greater tuner options.

I invite others to share their experience (and dyno results) of any mods they've done on their G80 3.8s.

I've read that a few performance shops can "crack" the ECU and make some tweaks, in addition to intake and exhaust mods that will give some extra pep in your step, but it will (most likely) void your warranty.

If you feel there's a delay in throttle response, there are some devices (e.g. pedal commander) that can easily be removed (to avoid any warranty issues) that will provide a more responsive feeling off the line, but doesn't add any actual power. "Cold intake systems" will offer a throaty sound under the hood, but performance increase is pretty negligible. Some folks have wrapped their air filter casing with insulation to reduce heat.

Be warned that most "chips" are a fraud. They are often not much more than a resister that gets wired to the IAT to fool the computer into thinking the air is colder than it is and then injecting more fuel. The computer quickly figures out that something is wrong due to the feedback from the O2 sensors and any possible gains are lost.
The only real way to alter the engine running is with a programmer that usually connects to the OBDII port. That can help if you have also made exhaust and intake changes.
