  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Plasti Dip Rims

Plasti-dip does not hold up. Every few months you will need to perform upkeep in order to keep it from looking tattered. Upkeep either being re-application or an additional layer, depending on how bad it is. It really does cheapen the look of wheels they are put on though.

Not true at all. I also dont own a genesis yet. I drive a trailblazer SS and plastidipped the stock 20's and the matte black has held up for a yr and who knows how many washes. It is oil and chemical resistant as well as i have over sprayed bleche wite and other stuff on them. Like others posted, so long as its applied thick, it comes off easily with no left over marks etc. I also did my front grill/ rear valence and some other emblems, the front naturally chipped due to debris but you wont have that issue with a wheel. Plasti dip has a million and 5 uses, just have to be creative.

I plasti-dipped my previous car. Emblems, grille and the wheels. 4 coats on everything and it last through car washes no problem. I traded that car in for my genesis and it was still on their fine. Not sure if I would do it to my platinum genesis, but if I had a black one I'd probably do it as a "test" blackout and see how it looked before I ever thought about getting anything painted etc.

I dipped my stock 18s and my grill today and am very happy with how it turned out! It gives the car a very aggressive look! I am getting my taillights smoked next weekend.

I would be interested in the dip for my old Isuzu truck rims. However I draw the line at safety with TINTED tail light lenses. The last thing I want to do is to get into fog or (out west, a dust storm) or a blizzard and then get plowed in the back end because my COOL looking TINTED lenses reduced visibility for the driver behind me. Or you get lucky enough to have one of those cars with a TINTED windshield (illegal), and the driver wearing sunglasses, at night plow into you. Might be mostly HIS fault (again, he might have TINTED headlights as well to LOOK COOL), but if you've just been killed in a fireball, it's of little consolation. :)

Not sure if this is directed towards my recent post of my wheels. If it is well then Id like to know before I write a reply to your rant and if not then disregard this post. Thank you.

Hey Miguel I know this is a really old post but I just plasti dipped all my emblems on my 2012 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec and was about to do my grill when I realized if I do that without removing it I could get Plasti dip on my radiator which would cause huge air flow problems and might be impossible to clean. I was hoping to do this without removing my grill.. were you able to dip your grill without removing it and if so how did you get around the radiator overspray problem ? Thank you so much, Ricardo.

You really should remove the grill. It's actually quite easy. A couple of plastic pop rivets and and two Phillips head screws and it comes right out. You have to remove the plastic cover on top that goes from headlight to headlight.

Thanks so much for replying but I went ahead and tackled it as is and it came out actually very nicely.. I simply put some of the painters paper between the grill and the radiator through the vents and then started work. I did the girl and emblems with 4 coats of black satin and then a gloss finish it actually came out very nice. Again thank you for your response, this is my only day off and I wanted to get it done, so I just figured it out and plowed forward but I really do appreciate your input. Happy Thanksgiving !

Nice! I would love to see how the handles hold up over time.
Thanks I think it looks cool too..I'm guessing the door handles will hold up about the same as all the other trim.. the only portion that is dipped doesn't get touched on a regular basis.

How will this plasti stuff hold up to rock/sand chipping and hot/cold weather?
