  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2013 Genesis sedan with the V6. A couple of the bolts that hold the splash pan under the engine broke off when taking them out and the plastic around the bolt holes is badly broken up. Is it safe to drive the car without the splash pan? I'm somewhat concerned about the low sitting plastic housing for the oil filter, it would be exposed to garbage off the road. Thanks for any input.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
The splash pan is not critical, I drove my Passat 100k miles without one. I'd get one from the recyclers and replace it when it's convenient.

Hi Ron,

I just had the same thing happen to mine (same year sedan V6). Just hit 91k miles and in doing an oil change I broke off 6 of the 8 -10mm bolts taking the cover off. With winter coming I wouldn't drive it for too long without the cover as the slush and salt spray will cause rust over time. I am going to attempt to remove some of the broken studs and replace them with new hardware. Moving forward I would recommend to all of you who do DIY oil changes to put a dab of grease on the threads of each one as you put the cover back on. FYI, the official "hardware store" replacement is a M6 x 1mm x 20mm long hex head or flanges hex head bolt. If the holes in your cover are stripped too, you'll need some oversized fender washers.

Later...

Ross

I ditched mine over a year ago just for ease of access when doing oil changes. No issues whatsoever.
