  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

In the 2016 Genesis 3.8, ultimate tech package, the iPod integration software wants to list and play the songs of an album in alphabetical order, not in the order the songs actual appear on the album. Surely it must be possible to use the DIS to control the iPod such that an album will play songs in the proper order, but I can't figure it out. I've tried two different iPods (an old iPod classic and a brand new iPod touch), both connected through the USB port.

That's interesting. I have not seen this posted before. I have a Signature with the AVN 4.5 unit, and it plays in song order from the album as expected.

That is interesting. Anyone else?

I'm using an iPhone 6, but I had a 2013 Azera that I used with an Iphone 4, and it worked the same way, as did my 2011 Sonata. All had NAV systems.

Hopefully someone with the DIS system (on the Ultimate) will chime in.

I have a 2015 5.0 Ultimate, and I could not get it to play the songs in album order from an iPod (160 GB Classic). You could rename all of the songs to start with the track number, but this sounds like a huge waste of time. I switched to a USB drive, which plays the songs in album order.

I have a 2016 Genesis with Ultimate package and am having the same iPod issue. All album songs are in Alpha order. I cannot get them to play in proper order. And, if I play around too much, the iPod freezes.

My iPod also used to freeze frequently. I've been using a USB drive for almost a year and haven't had any problems.

I wonder if this may have something to do with older ipods. I don't recall and posts from Ultimate owner's discussing this problem with iPhones. I would think this would be a pretty big deal.

Perhaps another Ultimate owner can chime in.

I am using an iPod with a dock connector. It will be interesting to see if the problem also exists with a lightning connector.

I've tried with both an iPod Classic and a brand new iPod Touch - both play album songs in alphabetical order. The Classic connects with the old 30-pin connector and the Touch with a lightning connector. The common element is the DIS software.

Thanks for those who spoke up about their experiences. I'm disappointed that it appears to be a design flaw, especially since I bought the iPod specifically for use in the car.

I should add that if I select an album on the iPod itself (rather than selecting it through the DIS), then the songs will play in album order.

Any info if the same issue is present using an iPhone?

I'm pretty sure I tested it with my iPhone 6s, connected via USB, and album songs also played alphabetically, but I'll check again and verify. I don't normally like to connect the phone via USB because I lose some notifications that only come across by Bluetooth.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
And here's the response from Hyundai:

This is the Genesis Customer Care Center contacting you to provide a status update regarding the recent inquiry pertaining to your DIS to iPod interface inquiry for your 2016 Genesis.

After further research, it has been determined that this feature is operating as designed and there are no settings that can be changed. Unfortunately, we are unable to speculate on the reasoning for changing this feature from the way it was previously. We sincerely apologize for any disappointment or inconvenience this may have caused.

With my iPhone 6 connected via USB the only way I can get it to work is to create a separate playlist for each album rather than using the default album playlist.

My Genesis works fine, but I have the AVN system. My wife has a Dodge Journey, and it plays in Alphabetical order. The workaround for that car is to put the track number before the file name.. e.g. 01-Speak to Me, 02 Breathe, 03 On the Run, etc. You could try that, but it's a lot of editing.

I also saw some postings on the net where users reported some success in making sure that in the iphone music settings change sort albums by title, NOT artist. See if that matters too.

Hi everybody - new guy here. Bought a 2015 Ultimate AWD just after Christmas and have been very well pleased with it. Except for the iPod integration...

My Genesis of course plays album songs in alpha order, just like everyone else, but as a user of foobar2000 instead of iTunes, using the workaround of adding the track number before the song title on the iPod is easy to do.

But what I can NOT figure a reasonable way around is the lack of gapless playback. I haven't seen this behavior in any product in a good ten years I think.

Please, please tell me it's something that I'm doing wrong. Otherwise, I may ask those who "sincerely apologize for any disappointment or inconvenience" just how sincere that apology is (Not really, but sometimes little things like this can make you angrier than some big things because they're just so stupid!)

FYI, I have a 160Gb iPod classic.

I love my Genesis, but the iPod integration is the worst I've seen in any car I've owned since I purchased my iPod Classic like 8 years ago. As many of you know, our new cars don't like the iPod Classic at all. So I purchased a 128 GB flash drive. Which I later found out is limited to 2,000 songs. So I just bought a brand new 6th gen iPod Touch 128GB. Which I just found out likes to play the songs alphabetically instead of in album order. Which is absolutely unacceptable for me, since my cars are in essence stereos on wheels. Has anyone found any way to fix this short of renaming the tracks with a "1" or a "2" in front of the name? So frustrating!!

Tony

So, so disappointed with Hyundai in this specific department.

I have around 4,000 songs on a flash drive, and I can play all of them just fine. I use a Sandisk Ultra 128 GB USB 3.0 flash drive formatted in FAT32.

I have a 160 GB iPod classic and am getting tired of it freezing and rebooting. Looking into just using a flash drive and I see some of you are using 128s. Is that the largest the system will take? I want to get a 256 GB but want to make sure the system will be able to use all that space.
