  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2015 Hyundai Genesis Sedan 5.0 Ultimate . I have had my car to the dealership and to a transmission shop and neither can figure out what it is. There is a clunk that seems to come from the rear end or in the AWD system. The dealership replaced the transmission , at no cost to me because they thought that was the problem. It wasn't the problem. The car has no more factory warranty only aftermarket warranty. It has 86,000KM on the car now. The aftermarket warranty is a very good one it covers up to 140,000km.,and covers the more expensive things that it might need in the future. The transmission shop doesn't know where the clunk is coming from , they think that it might be the transfer case, but before i put in a warranty claim i want to be sure. If the dealership doesn't know and the transmission shop doesn't no maybe my friends here can help me out. At lease tell me what to tell them, or look for. Has anyone else have this problem. It happens a lot in stop and go traffic. Any advice will help.

pretty sure there are multiple threads on this cluck from the AWD transfer case on this forum, hopefully someone will chime in. might want to search.

I had an issue with my AWD 5.0 which at first was suspected to be the transmission. However just before replacing it, the head engineers at Hyundai (I believe in S. Korea) wanted the tech to do some complex testing of the car with methods that the tech said "weren't in any of the shop manuals he has". Basically, they were able to disable the transfer case from operating and turn the car back into a RWD only vehicle. When tested in this mode the issue (which wasn't clunking, but surging and then backing off while trying to accelerate the car) disappeared completely which pointed to a failure in either the transfer case or the computer driving it. Both were replaced. No issues since (over a year ago).

Fortunately, the issue happened while wintering in Florida and the dealer in Fort Myers were true professionals, well trained and experienced with Genesis. I would not have wanted my Ontario small town dealer tackling the job since they haven't sold/serviced too many Hyundai Genesis models and are not a current Genesis dealer.

Good luck with your issues.
