POI icons on the map

Am I imagining this? I recently updated my navigation system to version 14 and noticed that when I select to display a POI like coffee shops there are no icons on the map. I thought I saw this and now I can't, unless this was on a previous vehicle I owned. Also, can I specify Tim Horton's or CIBC branches specifically?

Is there a manual or document for the nav system? I haven't been able to find one on-line. Thanks

Note sure where up here you are.............. but if my Genesis showed an icon for every Timmys, I would not be able to find the streets!

There seem to be 2 types of POI in v14, those you can control and those you can't. I see stylized Sams and Walmart icons no matter what settings I have on.

Stylized.

Was just driving home now and checked again and there are definitely many icons missing. I have select to display gas stations, coffee shops, restaurants and banks and I was right next to a Petro Canada and nothing was displayed on the map.

However, I did see a Harvey's burger logo at a location where it closed permanently a few years back! This leads me to believe the POI data could be outdated.

I now remember that it was my previous vehicle - a Lexus - which allowed me to select specific POI's such as CIBC and Tim Horton's. But I'd be happy if it displayed anything at all now.

My guess is you have to pay to get stylized icons.... A marketing thing.

T Horton may have decided to stop paying for built in navigation and throw all their money at Google and Apple Maps.

To whom and how would you pay for this? I’ve never seen an ask.

I think he means the retailer must pay mapnsoft or "here" (the mapping supplier-I think) to be displayed on the map screen. Advertising the companies on your screen is not free.

Yes, exactly. Stores pay for the privledge to have their icons shown.
