If pricing was reasonable I would not hesitate to upgrade to the Equus. I LOVE my Genesis and the Equus is a no brainer for me. I love the looks of that car as well and it has all of the little "missing" features that the Genesis lacks.

But again for me it'll boil down to affordability.

Well, since I bought my Genesis Tuesday, I think I will stick to it for now ))
As a next car, in say 6, 7 years? Most likely (if things keep going as well as they are now with my Hyundai)

After my half-hour test drive in the Equus a few weeks ago, I'd spring for the car in a heartbeat just to get the Normal/Sport suspension that you can adjust on the fly, providing the Equus they bring to the U.S. is priced somewhere in the neighborhood of $50K. If it's going to run closer to $60K, I'd shop around.

To the poll options, no. But I'm extremely interested in leasing one. Assuming a price of $50K (for example) it would cost about $150 more per month than my Gen, or about $4K more over 27 months (current lease). Unless interest rates spike or Hyundai changes lease money, under $2K per year to upgrade is a no-brainer.
We'll see in Feb 2011.

I see there are four votes in the "no way" category now. Too bad the people selecting that option aren't posting their rationale. As happy as I am with my Genesis, I'm always interested in hearing about contrary views (provided that they're presented in a reasonable and unemotional manner).

As far as the Equus poll, I picked "no, content with the Genesis". To clarify, I may very well end up in an Equus, but I tend to drive my cars for quite a while based on a habit I picked up from my father, which is to pay cash for cars and drive 'em 'til they're nearly worthless (actually, he also advocated buying slightly used cars to let someone else bear the worst of the depreciation, but I rarely do that, preferring odometers that read zero).

So, unless my '09 Genesis goes south on me unexpectedly, I probably wouldn't be a candidate for an Equus until somewhere between 2015 and 2017. Then again, I suppose my wife could end up driving one sooner...

I know next to nothing about the Equus. Since my Genesis is so new (to me), I am not really inclined to do the necessary research on the Equus just to be able to respond knowledgeably to the poll.

So, for the present, I'll not vote. But I do love my Genesis.

I'd be curious to hear their feedback as well. I have a sneaking suspicion that this is the handywork of a troll (trolls?) that has been known to frequent certain Hyundai forums and seems to have found his way here.

Doug in particular sounds just like a guy that used to post on the Azera forums. I'm beginning to wonder if he ever even owned a Genesis.

I provided the option because of the negative feedback on the car posted by some owners.

I assume they didn't post because their reasons are already posted elsewhere in the forums.

I had hoped a few might say the Equus is their 'fix' to the most common complaint. (poor handling).

I almost want to change my own vote, having seen the "latest" pics I might be looking at the Equus in a couple of years... but it would need more power first.
the 4.6 is great in the Genesis but if you want another 10-15k, there has to be more power on tap.....separation between the Genesis and Equus.

If you're refering to "Suspension Doug", I can confirm that he owned a stock 3.8. I drove it while he drove mine and we compared notes. I'm not going to revisit that can of worms, just putting your doubts to rest...

If Hyundai fix my suspension then perhaps I would, otherwise definitely not.

My dad is (or was) waiting for the Equus after he saw my Genesis, but he said that if Hyundai do not fix the 2009 Genesis suspension issues, he doesn't have the confidence to drop $50K - $60K on a vehicle that Hyundai won't stand behind. He liked the pics of the Equus I showed him and is impressed with the Genesis but he hates the suspension too.

He's in no rush but he'll probably get another MB. He's always had good experiences with them.

I voted "Yes" I love my Genesis. Right now I'm planning to keep it till the wheels fall off, which hopefully will be a long time. I have said before that the Genesis is the best car I have ever had. So, I'd love to have something even more luxurious. Who knows? When I see a live Equus I may just say I have to have it now and forget about keeping the Genesis till the wheels fall off and trade the Genesis. We'll see.

If the Equus lives up to its early billing, then yes I'll probably step up to that someday - but like a few others who've posted I tend to keep my car until the tires drop off.

Of course, in Atlanta metro, other drivers often take that decision out of your hands by terminating your car prematurely via impact. While I hope that never happens to my Genny, I would probably go with the Equus as a replacement.

How about we not play the fanboy vs troll game?

After my experience with Hyundai Motor America and its dealer network, I'm certainly in no rush to drop $60k on another Hyundai. If that makes me a "troll" - so be it. I'm still going through the motions with HMA and will withhold final judgment until they decide what they're going to do. If they remedy the situation and/or replace the vehicle, I'll cheerfully change my answer. As of right now - they haven't been terribly forthcoming in standing behind their product, at least for me and a few others on here.

Frankly, I prefer the styling of the Genesis over the Equus, which is more than enough to sway me from the desire for more room (Equus). Can't quite put my finger on what I don't like about the Equus styling, 'cept it just doesn't seem as unified a design as the Genesis, and perhaps even more a derivative design of odds and ends Asian styling (think Tiburon-era Hyundai styling, with the exaggerated side creasing and curves so blessedly absent on the Gennie). Is the Genesis derivative? Yes, along a similar vein to the original Lexus LS. But like the Lexus, people can accept derivative if it's even better than the original. The proportions of the first edition LS and the Gen are, to my eye, spot on, and after sitting on the sidelines when the LS first came out, ponying up for the V8 Gen was easy.

Although I drive the non-tech, I am interested in having the new bells and whistles of the Equus filter on down to the next-gen Gen.

I didn't vote, and don't even own a Genisis (but seriously considering to replace my CTS when lease is up in about five-six months).

But there are questions about why anyone would answer "no way", and I can address that from my standpoint.

I'm 56 years old, and in addition to my daily driver, I also own a few other motorized toys (see below). I'm at a point where I have no interest in spending any more than around $40k for a car (unless there is a lease that puts the payments in the range of a $40k car due to high residuals/low money factors). I spend my money on a balance of a nice daily driver, and some nice weekend toys. And I also have to overcome the hit in my 401K as I round third base heading for retirement.

The Genisis has all the equipment I care about. In fact, I don't even like some of the high tech stuff being offered on high end cars. And in the case of the Equus, the car is aimed more at the Lexus LS which leans towards the high end luxury market. I'm more of a sports sedan kind of guy. The Equus seems to have no advantage in the "sports" side of the equation.

For me, the Equus is up the wrong ladder. I want a Genesis that handles better with more power (and an even better audio system that can play SACDs... trivial to some, I know). A bit more 'refinement' in materials, fit and finish would be nice but not critical.

While I'm sure it *will* be more refined, it won't have any more power and the audio system will be identical. It doesn't offer any more of the things I truly value.
