In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I'm sure most folks aren't comparing these two cars since they're totally different, but I'm starting to given the cost of the fully loaded Genesis 5.0.

Macan S ($60K as built) vs. Genesis 5.0 w/Ultimate ($57K)

The Macan had instant response, amazing handling, the 340 HP "S" model felt very nimble and had no lack of power. Pretty impressive considering it's a small SUV. It was my first test drive in a Porsche...I left very impressed.

The Genny had much more tech included (similarly equipped, you're talking more like $70K+ for the Macan S), more logical user interface, more comfortable ride, and I'm sure it will cost way less to maintain.

My main gripe with the Genny was that even though the V8 has a lot of 'umph' when you hit the gas pedal, it seems like the response is very delayed. It wasn't a huge deal until I test drove the Porsche Macan S right after the Genesis. 340 HP vs. 420 HP but the Macan felt way more responsive (4100 lbs vs. 4500 lbs for the Genny). Touch the pedal and boom...you fly.

Now I'm confused... $3K more for a Porsche that was honestly way more fun to drive (and, I'll admit, comes with a Porsche badge vs. Hyundai badge). I brought my friend along for both test drives and he said it was completely obvious which car I liked more. Of course, when I start paying for maintenance my grin might turn into a major frown! I'm wondering if I'll miss the tech items too (heads up display, lane departure, etc. etc.) if I go with the lightly optioned Macan.

Inventory on the Macan is tighter than the Genny. You either have to order your car and wait 5 months (not going to work for me) or take one of the allocated ones at your dealer (crap shoot with color/option combinations...and there are an infinite number of options and huge spread in costs the way Porsche does things).

I also test drove the BMW 535i. Decent car, but no real reason to get one over a Genesis, other than the badge. I quickly struck that car off my list... the Genny is better.

For less money (with more features at least) the Audi SQ5 is basically the same vehicle. Just food for thought, but I suspect you already know that.

Totally different class of vehicle and similarly equipped like you stated it's $69,945...while still lacking some of the tech features in the Genny. When I put the 5.0 Ultimate in sports mode it had no problem with acceleration and quickly arrived at 60mph. The Porsche is nice but it's kind of hard to compare them to each other.

After weeks of laboring over the decision, I went with the Porsche Macan. My car doesn't arrive until the end of August so I guess I'll have another two months to second guess myself (and then years of higher maintenance costs to bitch and moan about).

My Macan came out to $60K, about $4K more than the Hyundai. I won't get most of the safety and tech features that you get with the Gen Ultimate, but that's a tradeoff I was willing to make for the Porsche.

I'll say this, though, damn good job by Hyundai because who would have ever thought anyone would cross shop a Porsche with a Hyundai. Something tells me Hyundai is going to keep its foot on the gas pedal for years to come.

did you consider the new 2015 LCI X3?

Very briefly... both the X3 facelift and the upcoming X4. I'm not a fan of how they look, and I'm pretty certain the Macan is way more fun to drive.

Of course, there's a price premium for this, so the Macan is not going to win any "value" arguments. You pay through the nose...even though it's the cheapest Porsche you can buy.

Thanks for your thoughts and review of the heavier Genny. That extra weight is what's holding me back myself. I have a 2013 Rspec which feels good weight wise, but way subpar seats relative to the new Genny.

I've driven the SS, and it feels good. It has all the power you need, and yes some less options, but it is really responsive. I need to drive the Genny again and see how it feels again. I did as you and had a car buddy ride with me in both the Genny and the SS. So, still try to weight things. If not for the subpar seats and non-telescoping steering wheel on the 2013 Rspec, I'd just keep it .... it is the perfect size and weight IMHO, but I cannot travel in the seats, especially with the limited telescoping wheel.

i agree with you.
when i cross shopped the 535 to the genesis, i chose the genesis 3 years ago.

i had never thought about getting the Macan as i dislike SUVs in general.
but if the macan handles better and feels lighter than the genesis, i will have to test drive it too.
how the does engine/exhaust sound compared to the new genesis?
how much discount did you get off the MSRP for the macan?
did you lease or buy? what is the monthly payment?
i would probably lease a Macan due to the unknown reliability of a brand new model.

Macan definitely feels more agile and faster. The Genesis has a more plush ride though.

You won't get much of a discount on the Macan, if any. People have been waiting for months for their orders to arrive. I was only able to get the dealer to discount the doc fee (about $400). Trust me, if you're buying the Macan it's not because you're getting a good deal or good value.

I'm buying. I didn't ask them about financing or lease rates. From what I hear, though, Porsche lease terms are not good (nothing like BMW's programs). FYI, hardly any dealers have available Macan's in stock. I "lucked out" by finding a build (option choices) that I could live with that was already part of the dealer's allocated cars for the year. My non refundable $5K deposit was paid a few days ago. I don't get the car until the end of August! If I ordered my own configuration, I'd have to wait until the end of October!!

i guess i'm luckier here in Southern California.
every dealer has several Macans on the lot.

i'll have to add Macan to my list of cars to consider to replace my genesis:

1. BMW 335i
2. 2015 MB c400
3. Macan S
4. 2015 genesis 3.8
