Possible Muffler?

Hello fellow Genesis owners! This is my first post on this forum so cut me some slack haha. Anyway, I've been conducting some research for the last 3 weeks or so on potential mufflers for my 2013 Genesis coupe 2.0t base. The car is completely stock aside from an intake. I want to get a little more grunt from the exhaust without having to break the bank so I'm just looking for a muffler to put on the car. Flowmaster and Magnaflow seem to be the dominating companies in the muffler world, but a muffler shop told me that flowmaster isn't really for imports. Is that true? The super 44 muffler seems to be a tempting choice. Magna flow also has a muffler I really like, it is part #10416. I haven't been able to find anything on youtube of these mufflers on genesis coupe's either. What do you guys think about these mufflers? Do any of you have mufflers that sound really nice with a completely stock exhaust system? Thanks to everyone who responds

Just dropping the muffler and installing a new one will not give your car more grunt. You can do it easily yourself with a jack stand, you don't have to go to a shop. Get a muffler online it's easy, but only do it if you want a new exhaust tone and a new look. Enjuku has all you need for mufflers, there are several high flow mufflers over there.

I went through this myself and ended up going for a full 3" turbo back exhaust which isn't even doing all that much for power- until I get a tune. I started by installing a stinger, then I got rid of that and went cat back then went turbo back.

If you want more power and want to spend around $500, just get a canned tune from SFR.

Enjuku has literally no "mufflers" for the 2.0T. They do have, like other resellers, catback sections, turbobacks, etc, but so do Genracer, KDMRacing, or any other parts house that caters to the platfrom.

As the muffler section is one piece from the axle back, cutting the factory unit out and welding in a new muffler section is a losing endeavor, and certainly won't be done on jackstands by your average car owner, unless they have access to a welder.

I recommend surfing the "For Sale" sections on the various Gen boards, and especially the groups on Facebook where there's a part-out a day. Buy used and save a few bucks.

Thanks for the response! I'm not planning to get a tune anytime soon but if I do one day, I'll be sure to go with BTR haha. As for the mufflers, I called a couple more places, including flowmaster and decided that a flowmaster 80 series muffler seems like the way to go. Thanks again for the reply!

Flowmaster? Oh, I thought you wanted a real axleback. Good luck, but you'd be better off to do the work yourself and get a real system. If you are going for sound, Flowmaster is not the way to go. If you are going for power "grunt" you need a full system and that depends on how much you want to pay. You can pay a LOT or a little, it can be a little loud or REALLY loud. There is some very good Magnaflow mufflers, but they are very quiet and very expensive.

BTR is good too, as is SFR for a tune. I see dummy's response and no proof to back it up, so take it's advice as you will. #1 is you have to decide what you really want- sound or power? Plan your mods for what you want to do or you'll lose a lot of money. One guy on here makes one statement and doesn't support it- why BTR over SFR? The other is a clueless dummy who really doesn't know much of anything about cars in general. I have him on my ignore list so I didn't see his moronic statement until you quoted it. His statement is all BS TBH, he just has no clue.

There again he's in IT, he doesn't like to get his hands dirty. Take his advice if you have a PC virus or need a router plugged in. Avoid his advice if you want to improve your car.

So what are your plans for the car? Power, sound, looks?

This is the 44 year old's first car he's modified, so he gets passionate. Meanwhile, others have been building for decades, and on turbocharged platforms. He's also suggested driving without seatbelts to the store, "races" people in traffic (read: mashes the gas near other cars and accelerates to unsafe speed on public roads), and suggests that warming up your car isn't necessary. Grains of salt, and whatnot.


I'd be glad to post links to SFR tragedies over the years, if you'd like. The information is readily available to all, and easy to find with your search engine of choice.

Thank you. Seems like the fight over SFR vs. BTR is an on going one. I've heard good things about both companies and bad things about both. However, like I said, I'm most likely not going to be tuning the car. I'm keeping the car simple with not too many mods. Just the essentials like a muffler or intake. Honestly, I'm going for sound when it comes to a muffler. Systems are too expensive for me right now. There's a bunch of YouTube videos of Genesis owners with flowmaster 80 series mufflers on them and it sounds perfect. Plus, those mufflers are around $120 so not too expensive.
