  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi everyone, just signed up for the site.

I've just started looking for a new car and test drove the Genesis sedan this past weekend. I'm looking at the 3.8 with the tech package.

So far my list of other choices are:

Mercedes C300 4matic
BMW 328i Xdrive
Infiniti G37X
Audi A4 quattro
VW Passat CC 4motion
Land Rover LR2
Acura TL SH-AWD

I had the Lexus IS250 AWD on this list, but after a test drive this past weekend it seems a little too small for me as I found it pretty confining.

Of course the Genesis is much cheaper than all of my other choices and offers a lot more (with the exception of AWD), so that's why it seems like a good value so far. I will get a set of snow tires to compensate for the lack of AWD in any case.

Just wondering what your thoughts were on these choices and your thoughts on the Genesis. So far I've only driven the Mercedes, have to get out and test drive some more in the coming weeks.

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up. Since this is an introduction thread, I'm moving it to the appropriate location...

No problem at all! :) Glad to have ya here...

it is interesting that ALL the other cars on your list are awd.
Is there any reason why the AWD versions of the other cars are the preferred version?

Assuming it has to do with the white stuff, I can say with a good set of blizaks the Genesis is very good in snow, the ECS and limited slip rear work well to keep the car going in the direction you point it.

Having said that, the standard all season V rated dunlops really can't handle anything more than a 1/2 inch of snow.....

You are right, snow is the main reason why the other cars on my list are AWD. I've owned FWD drive cars up until this point and am looking for a little more traction in the winter months. I would prefer to stick with all-seasons (which would be possible with AWD), but if I do get a RWD car like the Genesis, a set of snow tires would be the next best thing.

Good to hear the Genesis does well in the snow with snow tires, that was my next question.

I'm coming out of 6 years w/4WD VW Passats. Swore I would NEVER drive a car without 4WD! Now I'm driving a RWD Genny, with the original Dunlops LOL! Thank god it's like riding a bike, though liberal use of the Shiftronic helps too (along w/150 lbs of salt in the trunk).
Btw, to your original question:
The only other car I considered was the 3.6 CC w/4Motion. I think it's beautiful, the best design VW has produced. But with a sticker actually higher than a fully loaded Gen, and with 6 vs 8, and Dynaudio vs Lexicon... well, you get the point.
Lastly, I think this is most cordial this White Sox fan has ever been to a Cubs fan.
