  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I currently own a 2010 3.8L fully loaded Genesis and love it. I have an opportunity of trading up into an Equus. One of the choices is a pre-owned 2011 with about 3,000 miles. It was the hyundai dealers owners car for the last year. At another dealership where I get my genesis serviced is discounting a 2012 to $50,000. I could lease or finance this car. Other car's price is $43,500 and I can only finance this car. I drive about 1800 miles per month most of the time. Please provide thoughts, I am usually very decisive in my decision making but could use some input...

I love my 2012 Equus and I am leasing it. Lease allows 12000 miles per year and you would be driving more than that. Also, and more importantly, I do believe there were some significant changes between the 2011 and 2012 models including a more powerful engine and much better transmission. I am sure there are folks here that can add to that information. My suggestion would be to get the 2012 and someone else can tell you which proposition (lease or purchase) makes more sense for your circumstances.

:welcome:

Maybe the owner drove it around sometimes, but the pre-owned 2011 was not the dealer owner's car, it was a demo. This is one of the most common lies in the auto business. That fact that it was a demo doesn't mean there is anything wrong with car.

Agreed about the demo statement.. My main thing is this... I love my 2010 Genesis but I live in South jersey and we have awful roads.. The 10 does great on highways but on uneven pavement its harsh. I don't mind it, but when I was in for service I took the 2011 Equus for a test drive and just fell in love with it. Softer ride and all.. I know the 12 Equus is the second year of production which is always better.. Is $43,500 a decent price for the 2011 with about 3k of miles? The 2012 they are saying is being discounted 10k to about $50k, can I do better? Thanks for the input...

Edmunds.com says the true market value on the 2012 is 51,815 so I am thinking 50K is a good deal. It includes about 7500 worth of incentives to the buyer and the dealer.

How about the transmissions? The 4.6L to 5.0L.. Input here would be great...

I went from a 2009 3.8 to a 2011 Equus Signature to a 2012 Equus Signature. To me, the major differences between the Genesis and Equus are the up-graded interior of the Equus and the smoother ride provided by the adjustable air suspension. Both of those features are important to me.

Insofar as the difference between the 4.6 - 5.0 and the 6 speed to 8 speed, in my opinion they are barely perceptible.

On a purchase, you are talking about a $6500 difference between the 2011 and the 2012. I think I would save the $$ and go with the 2011.

The 2011 has a 6-speed ZF transmission, which is a proven design and used in other makes such as BMW. The engine is the Tau 4.6L engine.

The 2012 has a brand new Hyundai 8-Speed transmission. The engine is the Tau 5.0 GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) engine. With GDI you get a little more max HP, a little bit better MPG, and more soot on the tailpipes. With GDI, you need to be religious about oil changes, and using a full synthetic is recommended.
