In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Has anyone noticed a big difference using premium fuel in their v8? I had a hard time telling the difference.

I cant tell. I doubt anyone can feel 10 horsepower.Premium fuel is different from regular fuel in two ways. The additive package (cleaners etc...) and its resistance to burn. Meaning it's less prone to preignite therefore less likely to make the engine knock. This allows the ECU to add more timing. That's how more power is made. The ECU knows that it can safely advance the timing when the knock sensor is quiet.

On the Tau 4.6 V8 (2009-2011) Hyundai published specs that said 7 additional HP with premium. Premium also gets slightly better fuel economy (EPA mileage tests were done with Premium).

The Tau 5.0 GDI V8 numbers are probably similar.

They should have done the tests with both premium and regular so we would not need to debate this point. I still do not believe Premium gets more miles to a tank. That being said, you will get better milage using a non ethanol gas than going to premium. As for the HP, good luck in seeing a few ponies more, ain't gonna happen. I have been running premium from Shell contains no ethanol for the last 5 or so tanks just for shits and giggles but will be going back to regular simply because I see no benefit whatsoever. I do not like throwing my money at gas companies and in my case the price difference on a tank is around $10 a tank with an 18G refill. Why on earth would I spend $10 more for something that never sees the light of day? For the record, I ran my both my Gen 1 V8's on strictly regular and will continue to do so with the Gen2.

I run premium - its difficult to tell if there is a difference between that and regular because I have never put regular in the car. I have a gas station close to the house that sells non-ethanol fuels and I always fill up with that.

On reviews they said it's 407 hp with reg and 420 hp with premium. I just couldn't tell the difference personally. I guess I need to do couple 0 to 60 times with premium then do the same with regular when I get home in a month.

This issue has been continually discussed. The best way to determine if your car will get better mileage with premium is to try it on a road trip that you have made before and know the mileage that you got the previous trips. Of course the weather, driving conditions, and speed will make an exact reading impossible but the longer and more numerous the previous trips, the more the variables average out. On my V6, I get no significant difference as I get between 29 and 31 mpg regardless of the fuel. With premium costing 15 to 20% more than regular, I would need to get 4 to 6 mpg to benefit from it. The only time that I would use premium would be driving in the mountains.

As to horsepower, only a dyno would be able to demonstrate the amount of the benefit.

Check out my post regarding my fuel test (see link below). I now burn Super Unleaded fuel (Mobil) exclusively in my 5.0. I average 20-21 mpg per tankful. That is a mix City/Highway driving daily and is a calculated figure not the onboard computer which is about 1 mpg off consistently.

I leave it in ECO mode except redlight hole shots, highway on/off ramps and anytime I feel the need for sport mode.

That was informative, seems the 5.0 gets more benefit from unleaded non ethanol premium then 3.8. What I found funny is how passionate people are when it comes to fuel smh. I think I'm going to go premium, thanks for the input.

Could you please specify the Octane number the regular gas is and the Premium?

In Europe, the regular is 95 Octanes and the Premium is mostly 100 Octanes. I think in EU we are measuring in Research octane number.

Difference in price is at least 20% more for Premium.
Also in Europe the EURO5 gasoline can have max 10% Ethanol in it, normally it has around 5% Ethanol in it.

Mine car Im driving until now with Regular Gasoline (RON 95), because I didn't see any improvement in driving with Premium Gasoline in whole my driving career :)

I would bet my life that they did test with both, at least informally. No marketing person would pass up a chance to show that their product has a lower cost of operation than the competitor, but they need to balance that with EPA mileage numbers.

If an engine generates more HP with premium, it only makes sense that it also gets better fuel economy, assuming the same speeds and acceleration are used (which would require less gas pedal pressure with premium). This is basic engineering.

That makes more sense for someone in Canada, compared to southern US. Premium fuel burns cooler and not a good idea if weather is really cold.
