Because I vacation in France (& Italy) every few years, I'm always interested in the price of fuel. We plan on going next June or September. (Never never vacation in Europe in July or August due to the crowds).
Today, I saw on CNN that the fuel refiners in France have shut down their refineries, as they are on strike, as are many other things in France, and it shows people lining up for fuel, just as we in this country did back in 1973 and 1979. I looked at the price of fuel. (Just as in the US and Canada, the price varies depending on the area). The price shown was about €1.45 a liter for gasoline. Doing my calculations, and calculating that it costs $1.3977 to buy €1.00, and calculating that a liter is about 5% larger than a quart, (4 liters about 5% larger than a US Gallon), I figure the price of gas is about $7.70 a US Gallon. (Price really has not changed much since my last visit in 2006, when I paid a low of $6.90 in the French countryside, to a high of
$7.75 in Paris and Dijon.
BTW, Diesel price listed was €1.27 a liter, so you do the math. Yes, diesel always costs less in Europe.
