  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

While I was driving home from work last night, I used the voice command to call someone. The first time I pressed the button the system said "Please wait". I pushed it again, got the beep and was able to make the call. When the call was over, I noticed the knob on the console wasn't working. I couldn't tune the radio or even turn it off. I could switch to am/fm/xm/nav but the knob wouldn't work in any of the settings. The up/down buttons on the steering wheel wouldn't work either. I pulled over, shut the car off for about 1 minute and restarted it. The knob was now working in all modes, but if I tried the voice commands again, it messed it all up again.

Anyone have any ideas? I've got 61,000 miles on it and really don't want to get boned by the dealer on this.

All help is greatly appreciated!

Don't know if this would work, but you can disconnect the negative battery cable for a few minutes; reconnect it and see if it resets anything. Keep in mind your computer will have to be retrained based on your driving habbits.

That fixed it! Did a search after I posted the initial message, seems it's a known problem.

On Genesis Tech package vehicles, whenever the XM subscription status changes, even when XM does a short free trial for everybody, something gets screwed up in the Tech package head unit and digital amp/XM receiver boxes. There are several symptoms but the worst is the voice command function goes stupid and often hangs the head unit. Disconnecting the battery, or pulling the large fuse in the end of the dash, resets whatever firmware logic gets confused by XM.

It's college basketball's Tournament season... and XM recently enabled non-subscribers to tune into some of the games. Ergo folks that don't subscribe to XM just had their Genesis Tech package cars get screwed up... and it'll probably happen when the tournament finishes and XM shuts down this free trial come-on.

It affected my non-Tech package car also. starting about a week ago, my iPod now starts from the beginning of the first song (losses it's place) every time I start the car. Extremely irritating when I am listing to a recorded book.

I called XM radio and had them completely remove my VIN from their records. Now my iPod works correctly and restarts right were I left off from the last time. Previously, during the free listening period, the XM radio caused my iPod to restart from the first song every time I restarted the car, which was particularly annoying when listening to an audio book.
