  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've been to the dealer twice on this but they can't help.
I've been traveling cross country when the outside temperature was below 20 degrees and twice the cruise control kicks off and won't come back on. There is a small yellow caution light that comes on next to the odometer that shows the cruise emblem with an exclamation mark. After the outside temp warms up, it starts to work properly again. I thought it may be the radar sensors that judges distance to objects in front of the car so I cleaned them off. This worked once but the second time I cleaned them and it still didn't work. Also if it was the sensors, would the parking sensors show that I'm close to something all the time? Also the first time it fixed itself without cleaning the sensors once the temperature warmed up. I hope somebody out there has seen this and help me out. It shows no code so the dealer doesn't have a clue.
This is on my 2012 5.0 rspec.
Thanks for any help

Page 4-66 of the OM shows two indicator lamps which will illuminate when there is a problem with the cruise control system. The one you refer to is the "vehicle-to-vehicle" system. The other is apparently when the sensor itself fails.

Hyundai should have specific troubleshooting and repair documentation for this condition. If your dealer's service department can't figure it out have them kick the problem up to the Regional Service Manager who can then route it to the factory if necessary.

I would think if this were a common problem there would be existing reports on file - especially in Korea which has very cold winters.

Did you keep track of the road conditions when the errors occurred? Was it slushy or the roads covered with road salt?

Thanks for the response. Yea the roads were wet and slushy and had salt on them. Ill check my OM and research it. Again thanks for the help

I'm thinking the slush might have frozen on the sensors and combined with road salt residue may have blinded the sensors. Washing the bumper off and/or thawing out might have cleared the problem. Too bad Hyundai doesn't have little wiper/washers on those for you guys living in frosty land. :D

So I said I cleaned the sensors but.....I cleaned the four round (penny sized) circles that are on the front bumper. I've looked since your post at the owners manual and they show what to clean but its more confusing than helpful. Do you know if its the circles or the rectangular shape below the right headlight? If its the latter, I was cleaning off the wrong place. I would have thought the dealer would have picked up on this because I told him what I cleaned. Thanks again for the help.

The round disks in the bumper are for the parking assist. The radar for the cruise control is behind the smoked rectangular polycarbonate covers below the bumper. If these become clogged with slush or get really dirty, the radar senses that it is not receiving a clear signal and will disengage the cruise control.

AHA! Sounds like the old "cleaning the wrong sensor". :D

Who would'a thought this magical car had so many gadgets? This is the first car I've ever owned, and I've owned a bunch, that I had to read and re-read the OM to survive. Maybe I'm just too old for the Genny. Maybe I need to find a 1954 International with stick shift. <sigh> This thing's worse than the space shuttle!

Thanks capn Steve. Sounds like I was cleaning the wrong spots. I appreciate the help.

I experienced this once. I know if the ESC kicks in because the roads are at all slippery, it will shut off the cruise control, with a warning light on the dashboard. This may have been what you experienced.
