  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello, I will like to ask for your expert advice on what maintenance should I do on a 14 years old car with only 18641 miles or 30 000 kms.

This car was purchased by my dad and driven weekly or every 15 days but for a very limited distance. Therefore mostly oil changes were done.

Given the age, not the miles, what kind of service should I do? I will like to keep this car for at least 6 years and drive it way more. So far there is no problem with the car and every single option, electric motor and system works perfectly.

Sometimes I hear the transmission doing a "plop", but it changes gears without any issue.

I think I should change the transmission oil, coolante and spark plugs, but what I really don't want is to break anything doing a service that is not needed.

Visually everything looks great and solid

Forgot to thank you in advance for the replies, I've done some research already but seems like a good idea to hear what others have to say

:welcome:

I'd suggest flushing the brake fluid and do a single dump-and fill on the transmission fluid. Both are moisture sensitive and have as much if not more sensitivity to age than miles. Spark plugs are not needed until 105kmi, so don't waste your money there.

thank you! Brake fluid is something I wasn’t expecting!

Change all your fluids and check your tire age (find 4 digit date code on tire sidewall). If the tires are 6 years old or older, you need to replace them.

Yes! These tires are original, I will need to replace them all, thank you!!

Brake fluid often gets overlooked, but it does deteriorate over time.
Yes it can deteriorate over time, but also, perhaps even worse, brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, and can corrode brake lines and components internally. Definitely would recommend getting it flushed.

Hi, I'm from Korea, driving 2009 3.3 MPI which is short milage.
In Korea, I don't know what it is going in US, tons of maintenance work is being done to the old cars.
Below is what I have done to my car.
1. Coolant flushing. Old coolant is getting rust in it if replacement term is long. I saw the brown fluid after flushing.
2. Then change the radiator. The radiator unit is easily damaged(not only broken but also fin bent) with small sones when driving.
- this will help your km/liter.
3. Hub bearing x 4 -gravity is always on the chasis
4. Engine, transmission mount. -it changes your car like a real sedan feeling when you put your hands on steering wheel.
5. Oxygen sensor. If you smell a ammonia on your exhaust tip, it helps. and this helps your km/liter also.
6. Intake cleaning with H2 gas.
7. Weather strips - door side, chasis side x 4 doors.
