Sorry if this question has been posted before. . . .I was about to buy a new 2013 Maxima because of a huge discouint. I happened to see a 2013 Genesis, and am now considering. The price is about the same for the fully loaded maxima and genesis with the premium package. What would I really be missing with out the tech package? What is the difference in the NAV units? What is the blu link? It says blue tooth hands free phone. I think you can do bluetooth with my iphine with the premium package correct? Looking to buy tonight, so any help would be appreciated!
 
Yes, you can do Bluetooth with any of the '13 Genesis packages, including the base model. In my opinion, the Genesis is head and shoulders above the Maxima. If I were you, however, I would do a little more research before jumping into any car. Questions like front-wheel-drive versus rear drive should be considered, as well.
 
What PMCErnie said!! The Genesis is twice the car the Maxima ever thought of being. I'd even take a used 2012 Genesis over a new Maxima any day (oh, that's right, I did!!)

They are running some really strong lease deals here in Atlanta on G37s so I went to test drive one, but despite the great deal, I couldn't do it because my Genny is SOOO much more car than a G37, which is more car than a FWD maxima.

Don't make a rash decision and enjoy the benefits of Genny ownership when you have come to your senses :)

add both packages to the base and you get close to the 5.0 R-spec price.

I went with the premium instead of the tech in my 2013. the Tech gives you the seat ventilation, which I guess is nice (but not $4k nice), the headlights that swivel when you turn (I've made it this far without them), and the adaptive cruise control (which I would use, but then again never needed it this far in life). There are a few other things - bigger wheels, lane assist, etc., but I didn't care about those at all.

The nav in the premium is touch screen, which I prefer. The tech uses the control knob, which looks like a PITA to me.

Anyway, for my money the Genesis is WAY more car than a Maxima. But the tech package wasn't worth the upgrade over the premium (though premium was definitely worth the upgrade over the base mode for me - nav, sunroof, rear window screen, better steering wheel adjustment, etc.)

I think your assessment was correct. Some have complained about the adaptive cruise control in that, although it works OK in most situations, you can't use it in regular cruise control mode (without the adaptive part) in driving situations where it does not work well.

You will probably save some time/money on NAV updates also, because the Tech Nav can only be updated by a dealer. The touch-screen Nav can be updated by going to a particular Hyundai website and downloading the new maps (although it does cost about $200 IIRC).

Some of the Tech Package extras are just one more thing that can break and be very costly to repair (if you keep your car more than 5 years / 60K miles).

Be careful here. My service manager told me last week that some of the touch-screen nav systems require the same update procedure as the DIS does.

If this concerns you as a new car buyer it would be best to ask specifically about the year and models involved before buying.

Having recently shopped for a 'new to me Genesis', I did extensive research into the 09-10 model years.

It's not really fair to compare a Genesis to a Maxima. Not to sound like an ass, but if I were you, I would be more concerned about the drive than the bluetooth to be honest. FWD vs RWD is a BIG difference, especially if you live somewhere with harsh winter driving conditions.

The Genesis is bigger, faster and more comfortable than a Maxima. I also find the understeer on the Maxima borderline dangerous under hard acceleration, but I digress. When you look at what a Genesis brings to the table in terms of value and performance, there really is no comparison.

My short list when I was shopping for the Genesis included the Maxima, Lexus LS 350, Infinity G37, BMW 328 (not even close, I know) and the Mercedes E450. After driving all of these and considering stuff like cost of ownership, insurance etc, I settled on a 2009 Genesis 4.6 with tech + premium package.

Some annoying stuff out of the gate (burnt fog lights, defective door handle), but nothing that wasn't covered by the 5yr/60k. A couple of months in and I have no regrets whatsoever.

As others have said, do your research and do not jump in blind, this segment of vehicles are not to be taken lightly and repairs can get pricey real quick, not to mention the price of fuel.

I am talking about Genesis Sedan 2010-2013 (no touch screen Nav was available for 2009 for Genesis Sedan). According to https://www.mapnsoft.com, all Touch Screen Nav map updates can be downloaded from that website and they cost $199 each. But the website says no update is available right now for the 2013 Model Year (probably because they already have the latest for the moment).

For non-touch screen Nav systems (comes with Genesis Tech Package on 2009 onward) the above website says "contact dealer" and we know that means based on what others have posted on this forum. I really don't care what your service manager says.

Even if that is true (I assume it is), they still may require that a dealer do it. I think that is because it replaces the entire Tech Package software when it is done, not just the maps.
 
I owned an Altima and two Maxima's before the Genny. I considered them both but having a rear wheel drive car was one of my priorities (FL.). I DO NOT like the CVT tranny!
Both did have nice interiors.

I am very happy with my choice ;)

True - two DVD's worth of data for software. Three for maps.
 
Another thing to consider if you do not keep your cars very long is what they will be worth, My Genesis is a good car but the trade in value sucks. They depreciate faster than most other cars.
 
Thanks for all of the input. I went ahead with the V6Genesis with the premium package. I liked the looks and ride of the Genesis better than the Maxima. The Nissan did feel a little faster off the line, though. The Genesis has more interior room. I traded my 07 Azera with 91K miles.
