  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I would like to protect my 09' Genesis. Just picked it up and paint appears to be pristine except for a couple of very small chips on front air dam.

I have heard that there are companies that will apply a 3M type film to the car to protect the paint. I did speak to a Corvette owner who had it done and he claims no visible seams!! Purpose is to prevent rock chips and dings.

Anybody hear of this process or better yet had it done?

Cost? Appearance? Longevity?

Thanks

I am researching it as we speak. Front bumper $350, 24" of hood, back of mirrors, door handles $300. I have heard good things about it. 3M has good reputation, film is thicker than some other brands.

I researched it a bit and got an estimate. Nanofusion may be one of the better ones to get and costs 15% more than 3M. They can also "tuck" the edges underneath so you don't see edges. My estimate for 3M and tucked with headlights done also was over $900. Too rich for my blood. Even as bad as I think the typical bra will look- I think I'll get the standard bra for long trips only.

Have had it done on 2 cars now. On a light color car its virtually invisible up close....entirely invisible from 5 feet away.

Its relatively inexpensive and really protects the paint. I just had full bumper, hood, mirrors door edges and behind all four wheels done for $595

I had the full 3M treatment for my black 2009. You can see the line of demarcation between film and paint on the hood with a black car. Unfortunately, the installer's kit did not cover the grill slats, which I had color matched.
