  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am the proud new owner of a Black on Black RSpec. Picked it up at Allen Hyundai in South Orange County tonight. Traded a 335i in for it. I will miss the Bimmer, but not that much. The Genesis is a sexy machine! 2 separate friends have asked if it was a Merc or a Bimmer. I think it looks better.

Congrats! The R-Specs look awesome.

Congratulations on your new Hyundai Genesis! Welcome aboard and thank you for signing up!

Welcome. Did you need a bigger car than the 335i or did you get sick of dealing with the HPFP thing?

I'm looking at taking a similar route (trading an e46 M)- any regrets?

I did want a bigger car. I never had the HPFP issue, but the maintenance costs began to be ridiculous. $120 for an oil change, $1500 for a brake job, etc... I have no regrets so far. The RSpec is not as fast as the Bimmer due to the fact I had a tune on the 335i, and it doesn't handle as well. It does have a more comfortable ride, and a lot more features. I think the RSpec looks better, but that is subjective. I like the fact that you won't see a million of these on the road too. It is amazing how much bigger this car is. The only problem is I can't fit it in the garage anymore, so wash and wax costs are going to go up. Get the car you won't regret it.

The post warranty maintenance on German cars is insane. It is no different changing the oil on a Camry than it is a Bimmer, except you need to reset the service light, but for some reason it's 4 times the cost. I would say do the maintenance yourself but I know this is neither feasible nor interesting to a lot of people.
I've put 30k miles on the car and I have changed the oil several times, changed the air filter, cabin air filter, wiper blades, and fog light bulbs, that's it. I've had no problems with the car.

The 335i took 7 quarts of only BMW approved synthetic, I think with the costs of the filter you re still looking at $75 if you bought the parts your self. I never tried it myself, but it couldn't be that hard. I couldn't accept the fact that I only had to change it every 15k miles, so I did it every 7500. I am looking forward to only oil changes, brakes, and tires until 100k miles!

I have changed the oil in my 2011 535i a few times in the beginning to dump out the factory fill and break in the engine better to get rid of wear particles. You can buy the oil and filter for 50 bucks. I don't buy into the 15k miles oil changes at all. I do it 7500 miles per Old School Maintenance Schedule.

TJ would you take a moment to clarify? You changed the oil on the Genny at 1200 miles and then 7500 miles, right? (the link is to pix of your Bimmer) Is there anything else needed to be done at 7500 miles. And both of us being here in LA you are comfortable with 7500 miles? If so, I'll adhere to your schedule. Thanks.

Yes 1200 and then at 6820 miles. Then 7500 mile intervals using OTC synthetic oil which could probably be extended, but I get bored. 7500 on old fashioned Dino is no sweat, especially here in LA where the climate is mild for the most part.
@7500 miles all you would need to do is, rotate the tires, change the cabin air filter although mine didn't look dirty so I left it in there and changed it at 15k. Then just top off the wiper fluid and check the air in tires including the spare.
