  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

A: A Nissan Sentra
Yes, I do own a Hyundai Genesis but I drive a Sentra. I keep the Genesis at the dealer because I love front wheel drive, a crappy radio and lots of road noise. Yes, it's day three of, "We don't know how to fix this."
Problem 1> A bad oil valve control.
Problem 2> The Genesis has four of them.
Problem 3> The dealer only has one of them.
Problem 4> Mechanic can't figure out which one is bad.
Problem 5> Mechanic is too lazy, or stupid, to know that this control can be swapped out one at a time to find the bad one (thought a computer did this).
Problem 6> Nobody at the dealership has to drive a Sentra.
Problem 7> Called Hyundai's consumer service but they seem to think there's anything wrong with this.
Problem 8> Nobody at Hyundai consumer service has to drive a Sentra.

Deep Breaths....
Try to keep in mind that it is not just a first year car, but an entirely new car. There is going to be a "first" for each and every problem (same as with any make or model). You could very well be the first to experience this particular issue, and your dealer may truly not have the answers at the ready. Is the Sentra a loaner car? If so, be grateful that you are not paying to rent a car while they come to terms with your problem. If the Sentra is your personal car, then do not be too hard on everyone at your dealership or Hyundai for having not purchased a Sentra.

Issues like you describe are frustrating no doubt and you have a right to expect the best possible service. Try to keep in mind that until your dealer's service department gets up to speed on this particular issue, you may be getting the best service possible at this time. I would expect that the knowledge they gain will potentially become a TSB (if warranted) and the next Genesis owner that experiences this problem will benefit.

In any event, I feel your pain and hope they figure out what to do ASAP so that you can get back on the road in your Genesis. I recently had a Sentra as a rental on a trip. It was not a bad car at all IMHO, and, it really sips gas compared to a lot of vehicles out there.

The Sentra is a rental. If they would show me where the part is on the engine, I could swap it out myself. Damn it! They probably wouldn't let me use their tools. The thing is, is that they know what the problem is but don't have a mechanic that's capable of changing it.
The good news is that if they can't fix it in a month it will be declared a lemon and if they do fix it, the Mazda dealer is less than a mile away.

Wow...You're receiving 'suck' to the fullest. Make sure to post which dealership it is so we don't go there.

Demand that Hyundai have it towed via your Roadside Assistance coverage to a more capable dealership. There's no excuse for incompetence.

Still unable to fix it. Guess I'll have to wait until Monday before I get to find out that they still can't fix it. They're probably fleecing Hyundai for all these days of warranty repair. Maybe Hyundai will wake up and realize that this dealership is screwing them for the warranty charges and have a flatbed transport the vehicle to a dealer that has a qualified mechanic.
At least I'm getting used of driving a small car again.
