Question about 2016 Click Noise Pressing Brake In Park

Hi, new member here!

I am considering a 2016 Hyundai Genesis AWD with Ultimate Pkg. Has 31k CPO.

I wanted to check with the Genesis community to see if anyone has experienced or is familiar with a particular "issue" noted on one I am considering.

When the car is in park while running, pressing the brake pedal generates a click noise from the center console toward the dash. The sound is quite loud and happens every time the brake pedal is pressed. Doesn't happen out of Park.

I tested another 2016 they had and it did not make the sound at all. And it seemed like the pedal had a more gradual feel to it..meaning when pressing the brake pedal, the way it depressed seemed more gradual like there was more pressure. The feel could be my imagination since I didn't directly compare that part. But the sound definitely wasn't in this one.

When asking about it, one of the guys who works there mentioned that 2 of the 2016's on the lot did it. And that the service dept had said it was "normal". I have read that the shift interlock is what is making the sound and seems to affect many cars, not just this one.

For those who own one, is your car making the sound? If so, have you asked the dealer about it? Any fixes?

Sounds like the brake interlock. It's a feature added back in the 90's to prevent you from changing gears while the brake isn't applied. I'd take it by the dealer as it may need to be lubricated or possibly replaced.
