  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm currently driving an 08 Corvette vert. Every few years I switch from sports car to mid size luxury car. Most recently, Q45, STS, 350Z and Corvette.

Its looking like its time to switch once again and I'm looking at the A6, 535i and Genesis 5.0.

Here are my questions.

I looked at the Motor Week video and, as the 5.0 was running through the cones it looked like excessive body roll with serious understeer. How does it feel from inside the car? Does it feel like the car doesn't want to be hustled through the turns? Can the car be steered with the gas?

I've heard that resale value for the Genesis is lower than the Audi or BMW but when I looked at values on Edmunds for 3 year old cars the Genesis looked to be about the same, 50%. Is this the case or do the German cars hold their value better.

I realize that the pipeline is being filled as this Genesis model is new but about how long has it taken in the past for dealers to have a good supply of colors and options? Right now I'm looking for a Montecito with beige interior (or perhaps Ivory) but there's nothing within 50 miles.

A sales manager at my local dealer is a personal friend. I've talked with him and he tells me that Hundai will have lease special towards the end of the year or in the beginning of next year. Is this the pattern with Hundai and the Genesis?

I'm certainly leaning towards the Genesis with the Ultimate package as the value proposition looks unbeatable but not if the driving experience is way worse than the Audi or BMW. I'm going to drive all three over the next month but I realize that you have to live with a car for a few months to get a real feel for how it drives. So for those who value a sportier ride, how well do you like the Genesis 5.0?

Hyundai will usually offer promotions if cars aren't selling up to their expectations.

The 2015 Genesis is not quite up there with the BMW and Audi in terms of driving dynamics, if you prefer a more sporty ride. For one thing, the 2015 Genesis 5.0 is relatively heavy, and hard to overcome that when looking for sportiness. Hard to say whether the Genesis is "way worse" and only you can decide that via test drives. But the 2015 Genesis is a very nice car for the money.

They depreciate the same %. Bonus: a $50k Genesis loses a lot less $$$ than an equally equipped $80k Audi or BMW.

The 2015 is tuned for ride comfort, not the track.

I have driven the 2015 3.8 but not the 5.0 and the 3.8 with stock Ventus nobles understeers less than the 2012 4.6 with stock michelins.

With a set of Pilot Super Sports, the 2015 5.0 Ultimate in sport mode should be a good mix of ride comfort and sporty handling. My bet is that it will be the softest of the three (Genesis, Audi A6 and BMW 535), but I haven't had the chance yet to drive it with the stock tires much less the MPSS's.

Only you can say what will work for you.

When in sport mode the cornering is much tighter. Probably not as tight as the Audi but more luxury and better price.

And the 5.0 is faster than the A6 and 535i.

I don't own one yet but I have driven both the 3.8 and the 5.0. The 5.0 has a little tighter suspension but in my limited time I didn't feel too much difference. Neither will match an Audi A6 with quatro but I don't think they are intended to. I don't have experience with BMW's but I owned an A6 S-line and it cornered like no other car I've driven. I currently drive a Lexus LS460 which is like riding on air. The Genesis falls somewhere in between. The seats are more comfortable than the Audi and similar to the Lexus. The 5.0 gives a sportier ride than the LS460 (but not as much as a GS350). The 5.0 has plenty of power.

My experience (limited as it is) is that the Genesis is more like the Lexus LS460 only with less rear seat room. You can put in sport mode and get a sportier ride but it won't equal the Audi. It depends on what you like most. I find that for day to day driving I prefer the luxury feel and drive that the a Genesis will give, but when I have the chance to play the Genesis will be sporty enough for me. I liked the Lexus GS350 ride but the car felt small and was way behind the Genesis in technology.

I won't go back to Audi because of service problems I had and because the seats were not that comfortable. It is Classic German engineering. The driver has fun but the passengers not so much. I see the Genesis now like the Lexus when it first came out. You get a lot of quality for a great price while they build the brand. In few years it will be priced similarly to Lexus or Acura. Now is the time to buy. Wow I just typed a lot!

Overall, I agree with your analysis, but the new LS460 has a less cushy ride than before, and the F-Sport version (almost all Lexus models now have an F-Sport version) is down-right firm.

Thanks for the replies.

I looked at the BMW 535 today. It looked like the fit and finish of the Genesis were the equal of the BMW, the Hyundai has better technology and to equal in features the Genesis the BMW would price in the $70s. Of course the salesman stressed the handling aspects of the Beemer.

The comparison looks like its shaping up as well equipped year old 535, a year or two old S6 or the Genesis. My wife has a Lexus IS 250 and the handling on that is pretty good but the mouse motor they put in it is sad.

As long as the Genesis doesn't roll like an old Ford Granada I'll drive it for a couple of years, until her lease is up on the Lexus then give her the Genesis and I'll pick up a few years old Corvette or maybe a Boxster.

I'm really not leaning towards the used car solutions as getting a new Genesis seems to be a better deal, but I'd like to see a better selection of colors and interiors with the Ultimate package. I guess it may take into next year before that happens.

The ride in corners is very tight, I feel more comfortable making high speed turns than I did in my 2012 R-Spec or in my 500HP Pontiac G8 GT I drove before that. The extra rubber on the rear tires helps as well as the stiffer body. I will say the car feels heavy, it's not sluggish but doesn't feel like 430HP.

I don't view these as negatives though, the ride quality is far improved and for me is now up there with the other luxury brands, which was missing in the 2009-2014 Genesis Sedans. It's as fast as I would ever need especially in passing, and has amazing feature and technology set with a very comfortable confident ride.
