  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just bought a 2010 Genesis 4.6 with 19K. Its a great car, but it seems to downshift more quickly then I would expect. For example, if I'm doing 40mph and let up on the gas to "coast" to a stop sign I can feel the car downshifting and actually feel the engine "breaking" the car a little. Shouldn't the car just smoothly coast to the stop sign? I've driven other Hyundai's (different transmissions) and they are so smooth you can't even feel or detect a shift point.

Anyone else notice this problem and is it something I should have looked at by the dealer? (Or is this normal)? I did read the TSB-11-AT-008 bulletin on reseting the transaxle programing and letting it "re-learn". Is this something that may make a difference?

your car doesn't have a transaxle. that is the way the ZF trans is designed. similar to the hydramatic trans' in GM vehicles. gets the car in the right gear for the right situation. you're refering to a "coast clutch" setup. does help fuel economy (a minute amount) but leaves alot to be desired when you go to get on the gas again, almost like a "free rev" as opposed to these XF trans' that are engaged and you're out..

Thanks... appreciate the feedback. Looks like something I will learn to live with. If this is the biggest issue I have to look forward to I'll be a happy camper.

i've thought the same thing...almost thought there was something wrong with the car but glad to know others are experiencing the same thing so it's normal. It's a little annoying but that's about it with the car...love the rest and suppose can learn to live with it

just re-read my post, forgive the typo. last line whould've read "ZF trans'".
