  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

For the first few months, and many thousands of miles, when I started the car it would instantly idle in neutral at about 700 RPM. The last few month when it startrs it idles at about 1250 for 5-8 seconds, climbs to 1500 for a second or so then settles back to 700. My garage is attached and fully insulated and generally in the low to mid 70s so temp should not be the issue. Bought the car in Feb so had colder temps than now. Anyone else notice this, possibly normal? Engine does not seem to miss, not failure codes, no clicking or chatter.

my 3.8l always idles fast on cold startup for a few minutes no matter what the outside or garage temp is.

Mine idles fast at start up. It goes to 1500 and then drops off. I notice a very slight roughness during part of these initial few seconds. I usually wait for the drop off before shifting into reverse. My garage is in TX, so it isn't cold.

Same issue here. Very intermittent as to when it happens. No ryhme or reason. I don't think it is an issue but would like to know why it is inconsistent. I did see consistency when I parked my car on the Friday night and didn't drive it until Monday morning. It then consistently jumps up to the 1500 RPM for a few seconds before dropping down.

My Sonata goes like a bat outta Hell for a few secs. Maybe it's a Hyundai thing.

But, it's a good reason to use the factory recommended low viscosity oils

Thanks for all the feed-back. Guess I'll just watch it and listen for anything unusual.

The only cars I have owned that didn't do this were carb'd.
Granted, we used to bypass the FIAV on some of the #becauseracecars ...
