Quickly, my problem is this, that is everything is very dark in the rearview camera. It's hard to tell from the photograph, but this is probably about only 20% as bright as it used to be and should be.
A little background: This rearview camera has been "on the fritz" for some time. It will go a few years and everything's fine, then might go a month where it's working one day and completely black another day. Recently I tried to "reboot" the car which is harder than it sounds. It's very difficult to get the battery leads both off – and even when you do, there is apparently some other backup batteries that keep things going.
Anyway insofar as that was possible we disconnected some of the battery leads and that seems to have helped, at least for a few weeks, now the thing mostly works, but it has become over the last week very dark. On a sunny day it's impossible to see what's behind you if it's bright outside, your eyes can adjust to the darkness. Maybe the dark picture would be adequate at night, but of course everything behind you would be darker as well.
I don't think it's the camera, I think it's something inside the "brains"/computer portion of the "head unit". Any advice?
