  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have not put them on my Genesis. I did have the rain guards on my old Explorer, and quite frankly, I think I can count the number of times I left the windows open with those on one hand.

Years ago, before ALL cars had A/C, they were a good idea. However now they are more for their good looks. Only reason to use them now is when you park your car in the hot sun and you want to vent the inside slightly.

There are two types of vent visors. There are "in channel" vent visors that do not cover up the trim. As the name implies, they slip into the window channel. The other type mounts on the outside and does cover the trim. Many ads will specify that they are "in channel".

They are really nice here in Texas to allow some ventilation while protecting against a surprise shower. I have them on my truck and I had them on the Sonata. I skipped putting them on the Azera.

I'm in Florida, and I could see a big advantage in letting me park the car with the windows open to keep the car cool (and dry).

My question is: Do they generate a lot of wind noise at high speed? (It looks to me like they could disrupt the air flow).

Thanks,

Dave

The supposedly help with air flow too (in channel). They are nice to have when you want to keep the windows cracked.

I just got an e-mail reply from a company that sells lots of auto related stuff, asking them about rain guards for card doors and sunroof wind deflectors.

I had asked them if either of these devices had any effect on wind noise or on MPG.

Here's their answer:

Hello Dave,

Thank you for your inquiry about deflectors. On a aerodynamic designed car there is a great chance of increased wind noise. There would be little fuel mileage loss if any.

Dave,

You mentioned Sunroof Wind Deflectors. Don't Do It!! I've had them on two different cars in the past, and found that where the rubber meets the roof, rubs a mark that can't be removed by buffing. One time, I even tried using Rubbing Compound, and even that did not remove the marks.

Just open your moonroof the way it was designed.
