  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi again all,

Thanks to lots of research (since 2009) and doing several test drives I know exactly which car (3.8, Tech, Titanium/Black) I will buy. But, a couple of negotiating questions:

1. I signed up for the Motozuma account which does not become active until Nov. 15. Should I begin the shopping now, or wait until I can actually claim the $500?

2. I've looked through the Zag stuff and I still am confused. I belong to Amex and Consumer Reports. Is there any difference in "clicking thru" on one of those vs going directly to the Amex or CR sites?

3. Are any of the dealer-provided options worth the cost or are they available after purchase or online?

Thanks,

Joe

1. Need to wait after 30th day. (Nov 15 for you)

2. I did BofA and Amex, they both showed same price. Truecar.com may give same price as well. You don't need to click through, just go to zag.com then select whatever it fits. As long as you print out the quote, you are set.

3. Not sure exactly what the dealer provided options you are saying. Are you saying extended warranty? VIN etching? etc? It is for you to decide if it is worth it but normally it is waste of money.

I can only speak to number 3.

I think all can be had aftermarket except for the trunk tray.

The iPod cable is different than normal, to. It has a 3-conductor 3.5mm connector and a USB connector combined, presumably for power, control, and audio/video. It can be had aftermarket as well, but I've only seen it for $30-ish plus shipping, so I don't think it would be worth the effort.

They had 3 R-Specs on the lot the day I bought mine, and I got the one with the fewest add-ons (ipod cable and trunk tray).

Wait until you are ready to pull the trigger using Motozuma. You'll get a better deal when you are there in person saying you are ready to buy now (not today, not tomorrow but now) if the numbers work.

Joe,

Get the R Spec :grouphug:

nothing wrong with the 3.8 mind you

but once you get done paying for all the options in the V6 - you will be very close to the R Spec in price

Get the R Spec - it's worth the extra dough :D

Re RSpec, actually the diff in price between loaded 3.8 12 Genny sedan and RSpec is $3,000 plus tax.
BUT,
yes, if you have the extra bank, go with the RSpec. It's far superior to the 4.6 and a much more legitimate contender in class including 7 Series/A-8/S-Class than is Equus.

The ride of the R-spec is stiffer, so drive them all.

Picked up my titanium gray R-Spec last night. I started the deal a week ago. My dealer is not the local rep for USAA buying service (same price as most other buying services) but they said they would try to beat that price. They did by a few bucks. I also used Motozuma for the extra $500. It slowed down the check-out with finance because I was the first to use is. They didn't quite know what to do to get their money. So, I suggest you let the dealer know you intend to use Motozuma, at least a heads-up. That way they can get their procedural ducks in a row before you pull the trigger. Also, be aware that the discount most buying services use between invoice and their "price" normally includes stuff like competing brand rebates and military rebates. The local dealer that is supposed to be the rep for these buying services initially said they honored USAA pricing, but renegged during price negotiations so I walked. Good luck on your purchase.

Are you willing to clarify what prompts this statement? It's pretty unequivocal, particularly from the owner of a V6. Two comments stand out: <1> R-Spec is far superior to the 4.6, and <2> R-Spec competes better with 7-series/A8/S-class than does Equus. What's your rationale?

yes, i'm puzzled by his statement also.
to me, the main advantage of the R-spec is that the engine is more powerful.
to some people, it's not very important, and to others it is important.
to call it "far superior" is bizarre.
but, honestly, i haven't driven the r spec yet. when i take my car in for the 1st oil change, i will try to test drive it to see if it is far superior :D

Don't forget about the pretty color center display!

Nextcar, you are quite right, please accept my apology on garbled post, I do believe RSpec far superior to Equus as entry into class including A8/7 Series/SClass because of extra hp and better handling. Reference to 4.6 a sloppy error by me, was typing on the run......
