If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Against my advice, my sis bought a 2012 Genesis without the tech/nav package! Now she acknowledges she needs the rear-camera (she's very short & can't see over trunk) so I'm trying to install an aftermarket. Wiring/installing the camera & replacement mirror with built-in LCD are no problem.

My question is how do I wire it into the car, so it will come on when in reverse???

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

i have worked a few times with directus nav's TD series of mirrors...

all three of their mirrors can accept rear view mirror input:

you can pair that up with any rear view mirror...

three basic choices would be an oem style (if they offer such an option that basically is how the oem camera is mounted)...

a little bullet type such as the kenwood cmos ones, or a license frame mount.

but from my experience iwn this car, it wouldnt be too difficult.

Picking out camera & LCD mirror isn't the problem... I need to know where/how to connect to Genesis factory wiring, so that the monitor comes on when the car's in reverse.

Can you tie it in with your back up lights? This is what I did on my Trailblazer when I installed a backup cam.

i cannot gurantee this is 100 percent accurate, so always confirm with a digital multimeter or a test probe before connecting but according to my data base:

reverse light Yellow with orange stripe polarity is + when triggered location is passenger side kick panel, black 21 pin plug, pin 5.

hope this helps :)

if you dont wanna dig through that, you can walys tap into the car's reverse light on one side after figuring whcih goes + from ground when triggered, but for me, its always easier to tap at the front since thats closer to the monitor usually.

good luck :)

Apologies for my absence.. family issues came up so the entire project was put on the back burner. Hopefully I'll be able to get to it in the next several weeks.

I'll post my findings, struggles, & results when completed, so they may benefit other Genesis owners in the future. Until then....

I am actively :) looking for a 3.8 base model now and already thinking about this backup camera thing but would like to go a step or two further. I would like the screen to be on when in either D or R, with two cameras installed, one up front to help maneuver around parking lot and one on the rear for backup. I think I have every wiring routing sort out except for how to tap into the D light. Since I plan on the wireless camera with Tx/Rx that tape into the same feed on the monitor and the frequency of two camera Tx/Rx will be different, so the monitor will only have one feed at a time, either from front camera (turn on/off by D light) or from the rear (turn on/off by rear reverse tail light).

Will anyone please help me on the information of the D light or anywhere that is as close as the engine compartment that serve the same function - only turn on when gear is in D?
