  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Thanks! Much appreciated!

I use Royal Purple 75w-90 gear oil in my rear diff.

Has anyone changed their front diff fluid? I just did my rear diff fluid on my 15 3.8 AWD and tried to search info on front diff fluid change but can't seem to find any.

This is a silly questions but I have a 3.8 2012 sedan but I think its only the RWD version so I shouldn't have a Diff fluid to change as this would only apply to the AWD version (dint know there was one).....

Your RWD car still has a rear differential, and the oil in it should still be changed every so often. With AWD, you would have a front one to change as well, but either way, you have a rear differential.

Thanks for the quick update so at 72,000 miles you'd recommend doing this ?
Same fluid, washers and concept as noted in this thread?

Any headsup on whats the best way to do the drain/fill of the transmission fluid as well while I am at it?

I don't think that it is really needed at 73K miles, but you are also around ten years on it, so I would change it based on years, not miles.
I'll skip the transmission question. Beliefs on that are almost religious for some people.

Ha, no I understand that part and saw you posted in a few theads is why I asked :).

One of my local dealers quoted me $250 for a "Reverse Flush" and said they replace all the fluid so wondering if its worth doing it?

I am kinda handy but the above pricing seems reasonable for the transmission but not sure if "flush" is a good thing as opposed to just a drain and fill x3....

Personally, full fluid exchanges have worked just fine for me. However, it is incredibly important that they use the exact correct fluid, and not whatever supposedly universal fluid that they just happen to have.

Open(remove) the fill and drain plugs(fill plug first), let the transmission fluid drain out, close the drain plug and then use a oil hand pump to pump in new fluid into the fill hole until the transmission oil start to weep out the fill hole, close the fill plug.

Start the engine, move the shifter thru the gears and back to park. Let the fluid warm up to about 130F and then open the check plug. The fluid should drip out the check hole at a steady rate which means the level is correct. If not, add more fluid until it does drip out. If the fluid flows out, then wait until it drips. Close the check plug and done.

This is the simple explanation. The service manual will give more details on the process.

I'm going to have mine done... 2012 with 85,000 miles. Original owner - never been changed.

In my older days and musty Domestic and Mercedes the transmission oil is checked with the fluid hot and the engine RUNNING. Is this true for Genesis, or do you turn the engine OFF to check level?
