  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I haven't done anything to the Hyundai logos on my Genesis (and not sure if I will), but I noticed that some people are even going to the expense of replacing the entire airbag assembly to get rid of the Hyundai logo.

So after the rear badge, wheel hub covers, and air bag bag assembly (or cover), I guess the only thing left with a Hyundai logo is the Smart Key? After all, if you have done all that work and then give the parking valet your Smart Key, you don't want a Hyundai logo on it.

More simple solution: only give the valet the actual key instead of the whole key FOB ;)

I wouldn't even consider that. How are they going to know where to put it? Even if you explained it to them, how would the person who retrieved your car know? Also, they would need the key to open the door, which would be another fiasco.

I've seen some hidden camera reports on how valets treat customer's cars, and there is no way on God's still green (for the most part) earth that any valet is going to get his mitts on my Genesis. If I go some place where I have to use a valet, my MDX stays home too, and I take the Saturn Vue. Ego be damned!

About the only place I use a valet is at my local Morton's steakhouse ... and since I'm on their "VIP list", my car gets parked right on the curb out front -- never moves!

Sorry guys, I'm confused. The actual key is for the glove box. What would the valet do with it??

The key can also be used to start the car, open the car, and open the trunk, But you have to know where to put it. Check the owners manual.

Why do you guys debadge? There is nothing to be shame of to own a Hyundai.

No clue what Mark & Gimli are talking about. Post #1 in this thread was referring to "SMART KEYS". My car has one keyhole, in the glove box. The smart key runs everything else. You lock out the trunk with the button in the glove box, lock the glove box with the sub-key [within the smart key], give the valet the smart key and keep the sub-key with you.

It's not de-badge, it's re-badge. And it's with genuine factory issued Hyundai parts. Which, IMHO, are a bit more elegant than the standard issue Hyundai badge. I'm very proud to be driving the "car of the year." All my badges say Genesis, as does the car label itself. Nothing confusing there to me. It's not a "Lexus", it's a "Genesis".

You can download PDF files of the owners manual, and all other documentaiton (including TSB's) at this site:

For starting the car with only the key, see chapter 5 page 10. I don't know where it mentions opening your car door with the physical key (that comes inserted into your smartkey) but if you check closely on your door handle you will see where it goes. Same for trunk (although I have not tried the key in the trunk yet).

Edit: Opening the trunk with the physical key (aka mechanical key) is described on page 4-20: "To open the trunk only while all doors are locked, press the trunk unlock button for more than 1 second on the transmitter (or smart key), press the button on the trunk handle with the smart key in your possession, or insert the master key (or mechanical key of the smart key) into the lock and turn it clockwise. Note: "Master Key" is for Canada only. In the US we have a Smart Key with a mechanical key inside it.

pg 5-10 has to do whith the smart key holder, which is used when the smart key battery dies. The mechanical key will not start the car.

I stand corrected on the keyholes! One in the trunk is really hard to see. But to the original point, you have to give the valet the smart key, not the mechanical key.

Of course we are ashamed. You don't see very many people using their real names on this forum, do you? Shame, shame, shame.

Actually, I am reluctant to rebadge my Genesis, because I don't want anyone at work to think I have more money that I know what to with. After all, some people think a rebadged Genesis looks like a Bentley!!!

OK then, we're screwed. We have to get the Smart Key rebadged. It looks like one could replace the plastic cover without having to re-program the Smart Key, but not sure. Or a Genesis emblem could be glued over the Hyundai H.

Please note the post by BaywayRic. Apparently you insert the entire Smart Key into the slot next to the CD slot to start your car if the Smart Key battery is dead, and not just insert the mechanical key as I stated. The instructions are not clear and I never tried it.

Just as I posted last post saw post stating pg 5-10 has to do whith the smart key holder, which is used when the smart key battery dies. The mechanical key will NOT start the car. So.........I was aware about the usage of the smart key holder, yet from reading the manual pg 4-3 says the sub key is "used only to start the engine and lock/unlock the door" I was thinking mechanical/physical key in the smart key was called the sub key--no wonder I could not find where to insert mechanical key. Well no need to read manual a 3rd time now-issued resolved-thanks again to all for info.

The manual is not always worded very well, and sometimes you just have to try it.
