Recall notices in Canada

New Forum member here. Wondering if anyone has had similar experience to me.

Took possession of 2015 V6 in Feb 2015. Received written notice for rear lamp problem and it was taken care of in spring 2015. Heard that there would be a recall for factory installed Hankook tires which would expire in 2017. I have never received a written notice about this "recall".

Took car in for winter tire switch over and was advised at dealership of a duct coil recall that was addressed that day.

I enquired about status of tire recall and was advised to followup with Hyundai Canada.

All I got back was that all recall notices in my case had been "sent out" and that they had my information on file to send out anything on future recalls.

Given the costs involved to replace tires, I would prefer receiving a written notice of the "recall".

Anyone in Canada facing similar circumstances?

I don't believe the tires were an actual mandatory recall - they were a voluntary "service campaign". I did eventually get a letter from HMA (I'm in USA) on it, though.

Curious on the "duct coil" recall - did they provide any details as I had not hear of that one before?
 
Hyundai Motor America (HMA) and Hyundai Canada are two different entities. Warranties and service are provides by each of these separately, and may not be the same. Also, they may make different decisions about things like tire replacements, since that may be a customer satisfaction decision.

In the USA, all service bulletins and recalls are included in a TSB (technical service bulletin) issued by HMA. There are several different categories of TSB's that I have seen, including these examples:

1. Information to mechanics about general problems or warnings, which might be specific to all Hyundai's or just the Genesis. Example is the TSB issued several years ago warning about using after-market oil filters for all Hyundai's.

2. Technical information not included in the shop manual, or a change to the shop manual.

3. Fixes for problems that a customer may complain about, but are optional and only to be done if there is a problem.

4. Fixes that Hyundai will do for all cars that are affected, even if the customer does not complain (such as ECB update).

5. Mandatory fixes that must be done anytime a car is in the shop for any reason, or is in dealer inventory (new or used). But the customer does not have to be notified. The first round of brake fluid changes from DOT-3 to DOT-4 was in this category (but it was later escalated to a recall).

6. Recalls. A recall has legal status in the USA, since the NHTSA is notified, and it almost always is safety related. The customer must be notified by HMA via mail.

I don't believe that tire change in the USA was an official recall, but since I don't own a 2015 I can't say for sure. Even if it was, Canada is whole 'nother ball game.

i had the water in tail lamp covered under warranty, and the tires were done before i even took possession of the car

As stated by others, the Replacement Tires are covered under a "Service Campaign" not a Recall, so you wont get any notification from Hyundai Canada. At least your dealer was kind enough to tell you that you had until 2017 to have them replaced. Mine just swapped them during a regular service visit. As I am not happy with the replacement tires and there is nothing wrong with the OE Tires, my advice is to keep the OE Hankooks for as long as you can and get the replacements just before the "Campaign" expires.
 
I'm in Ontario and when I brought my car an oil change during September, they advised me that I could get my Hankook's swapped over for the recall. However, I sold the tires when I picked up winter tires last winter knowing I was going to use the OEM wheels with my winter tires and grabbing a summer set up.

So the dealer didn't insist on getting the Hankooks back while swapping them?

Sounds more like he could not get the swap since he had sold them prior hench the "however". ;)
 
I was quite concerned about this as well having purchased new in Jan 2015 and having purchased a separate set of new winter tires from a separate tire dealer around the same time. Kept following up with Hyundai dealer - we've had 6 separate recalls done by the dealer since our Jan purchase. In August we finally got 4 brand new Michelins at no cost completing the 2015 recalls - as far as we know.

Unfortunately I have no additional info on this issue... Was only advised of the work needed when I got my winter tires put on.
