  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2020 G70 3.3 sport. It’s getting hot enough in Texas I’m using the recirculate feature of my A/C to get maximum cold from my A/C. Odd thing is it’s seems to almost be on a timer. I hit the button, air gets colder and really nice, 3 minutes or so later the system automatically turns off recirculate. Temp is set on 68, not in automatic mode, have varied the blower speed, turned off the auto dehumidifier function, does not seem to matter what setting is used. I turn on recirculate and after 3 to 4 minutes that function turns itself off. Is this normal with our cars or is mine possessed?

I have had similar things happen as well. I have a 2019 G70 3.3 Prestige. Often times, I knew I was coming up to a smelly area (I drive by a farm full of cows) and I choose the recirculate. At some point, it turn off and I get air from the outside and it smells from cows. I have never figured out a pattern, so I am hoping someone can pinpoint a technical reason it does this, or something in the programming that makes this happen.

Here is how I solved it: turn the car off in the mode you are most likely going to use. I have kept it on recirculation, and it has not turned itself off since I have been trying this. When I turn the car on, it stays on, and does not switch off unless I press the button.

Let me know if that trick works for you.

The owner's manual has a warning about using the recirculated air potion for too long, which I don't agree with, but whatever. Also, check out section 3-135 of the owner's manual.

V14 of the Infotainment removed the ability to control smart vent and some of the other features 🙄

Yes this is an intended design feature to avoid excess CO2 buildup from using recirculation for too long.

I know they were trying to look for areas to save weight and money when they molded the G70 from DH beginnings, but this AC is a huge downgrade from the one in the DH sedan. I never lowered my temp below 72 in Texas in my 5.0 and it would chill my fingers if I had the vents facing the wrong way.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have not updated to V14 yet but I have the new SD card. Excess CO2, maybe, but never had a prior car want to take control of recirculate before if that was really a big concern seems other cars would do this. I’m also of the opinion the A/C as a whole is not as good as prior vehicles I’ve owned. Don’t think we use R134A either. Saw a sticker under the hood that I think was a different Freon type than I’m used to. The trick about leaving recirculate on when I shut the vehicle down I’ll try. I know when I start my car from the App, the A/C and recirculate both come on. If the car is looking after my best interest on how I use the recirculate feature, I would rather have full control over that.

Another thought....if you put the system on Auto it will control the recirc. Put the system on full manual by turning off auto, changing the recirc to how you want it, and the fan to the speed you want.

I have been told that GM always still bleeds a noticeable amount of fresh air in even on the recirculate position. (I do agree that this seems like a foolish concern.)

Some things should not be automated.

Another thought....if you put the system on Auto it will control the recirc. Put the system on full manual by turning off auto, changing the recirc to how you want it, and the fan to the speed you want.
So if you do this your recirculate feature stays on? The system flips to manual as soon as you change blower speed. I only want recirculate for maximum cooling affect with Texas getting to 98 degrees now. Both auto mode and manual mode my recirculating feature is like being on a timer for 3 to 5 minutes then that feature will shut off. The G70 manual is not real clear if while in manual mode that feature should stay on full time or if the car has a vote in this?

I swear mine will stay the way I set....been a while since I drove the car.

Live in Florida where it is very hot, year a round. Sat the A/C on auto 72 degrees when we left the dealership last August and it has never been moved since. Our Denali also has the same setting for all the years we've had it. May turn seat fans on but otherwise have never seen a reason for changing it. Same temp as inside the house, year-a-round. I know it is no hotter in Texas than here, so why no use the Auto function? This A/C works as well as any I ever owned, including all levels of GM from Cadillac to Chevrolet and multiple Ford model company cars.
And yes GM definitely bleeds in fresh air regardless of setting, this Is for passenger safety,

I live in Vegas and don’t use auto. For me, it seems that as the inside car temp lowers to the set temp the air coming out will start to warm. When the sun is beating down on you, even with tinted windows, any sort of warmer air is unwelcome. I don’t know if this is just my car and it’s broken, I’ve never had auto climate before. The manual setting eliminates this issue for me, and I can set it to 72 and medium low speed and just keep it there. Although I love auto in the winter, seems to work great

Update
Auto function will not provide the most absolute cold air. Its fine for spring and winter but not summer. I like to keep my blower speed on medium but want really cold air, not just mediocre cold air. No matter on auto or manual my recirculate function will not stay on more than 3 to 5 minutes which at that moment I have the most cold air. I had been keeping my air temp set on 66 degrees thinking that was as cold as the temp went. I was wrong. After looking at the manual I discovered the lowest temp setting is ‘low’, which according to the manual is basically max low temp the car will produce. I use recirculate when I first get in the car and set the temp now to ‘low’. Seems to work a little better than 66 degrees even though I would argue the interior of the car never really got to 66 degrees. Still odd the car wants to control the recirculate function and I assume my 2020 G70 is not unique regarding that. Thanks for the replies and suggestions.

What is unknown is the design criteria. Any system is designed to give X degrees temperature drop. Residential systems are usually 20 degrees drop.

If you close all the vents except the center one, you should be about 40 degrees air coming out with outside air of about 80. If much higher, could be an issue of some sort.

Given Dallas temperature you won't be seeing 66 cabin temp on a summer day. Setting beyond the capacity of the AC does not do anything.
