Record Gas Tank Refill

Hyundai's or QuikTrips?

I definitely trust this station's pumps more than Hyundai's record for measurement accuracy. They have been dead on for hundreds of refills in multiple cars and measured gas cans.

I Get this!! And will not poo poo the story with my nose up high. Here is why what you did is very possible.

With a certain tuned Husky fuel handle, you can after the initial top off pop, slow the flow to about less than gallon a minute. Slow enough to not pop it. And to not suck the gas back in the vapor retrieval.

Pull the handle up a bit in the filler neck to observe the flow going in the tank and make sure the vapor retrieval hole does not suck gas. I have put just over 3 extra gallons in the tank.. Engine running, and level or slight to the right. Now, this is highway driving so the gas vapor canister will not be hurt as the tank drops while driving.

The range between fill ups is amazing. Over 600 mile range if allowing it to hit the 30mpg+. Which either the 5.0 18" wheels and V6 will do (or better) with no headwinds.. And tires upped in pressure to 40F-38R. Yes, this is trivia... But if one is going between high gas price states to low gas price states the extra range helps.

Never shop at any gas station where you see "Security Seal" tape.

Or - find the standard unit of measure for the state calibration (call the # on the sticker) and only buy that quantity at a time... typically 5 or 10 gallons. Chip in the pump will delivery calibrated amount to pass inspection, but will cheat at other quantities...

My guess is that the pump was not properly calibrated. It happens every now and then. A few months ago my gas gauge said approximately 3/4 full and it took approximately 11 gallons to fill. When I calculated my mileage it was under 6 miles per gallon. Normally I get between 10 and 12 miles per gallon. I complained to the state agency that controls weights and measures. More than a month later someone called and said they were going to go check the pump but they never told me the result. My guess is the station had recalibrated the pump by the time the state checked it and it was pumping the amount of gas it was supposed to.

P.S. I read in the Sun Sentinel that when the state check gas pumps that most often if they are off at all they are dispensing more gas than the pump says but every so often they are giving less

I'm pretty sure Hyundai knows the size of the gas tank.

Maybe you actually do drive 600 miles without stopping, and if so, all you have to do is say so. I was just asking if anyone actually does that or would want to do that.

I mentioned in the thread that the range is useful if going through states that have high gas prices on the way to other states that have lower prices. Did not say non stop. Could pull off to eat or other break without getting gas.

I can say that I have and do drive very long distances without stopping. I absolutely hate stopping when I am on a road trip. Stopping is usually what makes me tired.

Since then I have been able to get one other fill up at around 20.5gal and 515mi on the odo.

my personal record is just over 21 gallons, and it's not really my record. That's how much the sales rep at my dealer was able to put in when I first got the car.

He had a receipt worth $93 some odd dollars as proof.

I did ask him if I should expect gas in the back seat or the trunk as I was stunned.

I have never pumped more than 17 gallons since owning the car for almost 2 years.

I don't think the numbers are off, I think the gas tank is bigger than stated. On the other hand, I would never drain it down to as low as some people would.

I drive a lot.... I run the tank down to fumes all the time. Some people say its bad for the car... I don't know why or have never heard anyone state facts on their assumptions.

Because there is settlement at the bottom of the tank? Wheres the proof? So I must be burning up all the settlement while others are letting sludge build up?
