  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

When you record a song from the radio, is it saved to a playlist on the HD? Can you set up a playlist from radio songs?

Not sure I understand how the recording option works.

I believe the recording is a time-limited feature for XM (maybe 30sec?). The USB transfer method is an easy way to go if you're looking to load music onto the HDD.

Are you sure it is a recording option? It may be as I don't have an ultimate, but even the base model has a "rec" button on the first six preset stations. It allows you to go back and listen to previous songs, similar to cache with a dvr. It starts recording when you turn on the car so if you drive 15 minutes and change to preset #3 you can go back and listen to any of the songs that have played on that station in the previous 15 minutes.

Except it does not. I have Ultimate with first 10 or 12 presets showing Rec shield, but for some reason backwards button is inactive even after an hour of driving. Any ideas? Should I activate it somewhere?

It's not a recorder- it's just a limited buffer for XM radio. It allows you to rewind (only so far back, though) or pause (while you make/take a call, for example) when listening to XM radio. It is NOT a permanent recording that is saved anywhere - just a temporary, time-limited buffer.

I understand it. It's called "Time Shift" in my BMW. The problem is in my Genesis it doesn't offer to rewind. The button is greyed out.
