  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Well when it rains, it pours. Setting aside the issue I have with my auto wipers acting finicky, for the past 5 or so fill ups, the fuel nozzle shuts off somewhere between 1/2 and 3/4 tank...like clock work. Every last fill up has been from different stations, so I'm fairly sure it's not the pump causing it. Once it shuts off, I have to refuel slow as sh*t until it's full. No CEL as of yet.

I guess I'll bring this up when I bring it in for the auto wiper problem as well.:(

Here's the schematic of the system....

smells like a "can't breathe" problem. if you wait for 3-4 minutes after initial shut off, can you resume "normally"?

How many miles? It 30k or so, have you had the fuel tank air filter serviced? Have you ever filled to top of cap opening (packed tank)? If so that is a no no in most newer cars. It states not to do it in the Genesis manual and in my Mercedes manuals.

Update. Car was looked at today. Hyundai tech support line told the dealer to replace the vent valve. They needed to order it, and the tank must be dropped to change it. Part should be replaced on Monday.

I just replaced the vent valve on my Outback about a month ago, but it was easy and tank didn't need to be dropped. Hope this fixes your issue.

Update - fuel tank vent valve came in finally. They replaced it and the fuel pump shut off after only 1.5 gallons was refueled. They are keeping the car to troubleshoot more tomorrow. I researched the part number on my repair order and it's around a $40 part. 31155-3M000

I have the identical car (year/color/interior) with about 21.5K miles and have had the same problem since the car was new. I just hold pressure between the nozzle and the tank and fuel manually.
Have you recently changed where you get fuel? I have more trouble at COSTCO than Chevron.

my 2012 5.0 has done that every since I bought it 6/12/12. It does not seal right if I push the the pump all the way in and hold it with my hip it fill normally.

Jime & Dicko - I've used different pumps and get the same result; the pump always shuts off around 1/2 tank or so. Then I'll have to reduce the pressure to get it to fill.

The dealer just called me and told me that they found one of the lines with blockage. I have no idea what they found exactly in the line, but they did manage to fill it up and said it worked fine.

Philth, I hope you keep us posted. I'd like to know if the fix works. Mine also shuts off early, but only at my SAMS CLUB pumps. Just recently started doing it. I'm at 35000 miles. Anyone know how long the warranty is on the fueling system?

60k warranty.

I'll second that. Costco seems to run their pumps at much higher pressure than other places, and that aggrevates the problem. What works for me is to insert the filler handle upside down. Then I can at least fill it with the latch on the first notch. It's been this way since it was new (2012 3.8).
