  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Looking at a 2012 Hyundai Equus signature with 130k on the odometer for 11900$. Haven’t yet seen the carfax but the car looks immaculate inside and out & looks like it was well kept.
Looking for a friend who is not really a car person but likes the incredible features/quality for the money. My questions are...

1. Can this car make it past 200k miles easily?
Can any owners testify? My friend would not be driving it that many miles per year.

2. Are maintenance/repairs reasonable on this car (at this mileage) and can they be done by a good independent mechanic vs dealer?

3. What issues do I need to look out for? Does the 2012 have suspension issues like the 2011?

4. I know many luxury cars electronics/gadgets tend to fail over time. How does the equus hold up in this regard? Is there anything that could render the car undriveable or create a dangerous situation on the road?

any input would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks!!!

i have a 46k mile equus that ive had for just over 4 months and already the power seat has failed twice, and ive had the struts replaced. Everything was covered by warranty though.

$4,400 to replace struts on a 2013 Equus with 37k miles..paid by extended warranty.

Steer clear of cars with air suspension with over 130,000 miles. Before my Equus I had an S500 with a very similar air suspension setup and it was a nightmare after another 10,000 miles.

FWIW my 2011 Equus' air suspension hasn't had any real issues (yet) at 64,000 miles. I've had it since August 2018 (~9000 miles).

What extended warranty do you have? The ones I've seen don't cover shock absorbers or suspension air bags.

I've got the 2014 Equus and have 73K miles on it- mechanically no issues. Replaced rotors and breaks in front. Oil every 5K-7K with all synthetic oil only no blend. I did a GDI clean out through air intakes myself w/seafoam - yes it makes a difference- engine runs smoother and faster with slightly better mpg. I did have sunglasses holder stop locking (its above driver head in center head liner area) - I force it closed and it stays put. I did have the driver side door map holder stop locking - but it still works fine. No other issues. I polished the heck out of paint and it looks flawless for black metallic I use ceramic coatings now after I polished/clayed it - love it the way it looks. I switched headlights myself - to the Hermes edition lights- best thing I did to keep car looking more than current. I use DWS 106 tires on front rear and they are great here in NY Long Island for all weather use. Love car. Tons of compliments each time I drive it- people stop me all the time and ask what it is. And people I drive around always can't stop commenting about ride and features.

I have a 2014 Equus with 234K miles, have only changed altenator and timing belt, and normal maintenance. No other repairs or service.
That's pretty amazing! My 78k mile '11 Equus just had its front left strut replaced and also needs the parking brake fixed. An unfortunate $1000 repair for the strut but other than that and my looming parking brake issue, I've also only done regular maintenance like oil/filters and I had to clean my MAF and intake manifold.

I assume 90% highway miles?
I think highway miles are a lot easier on the suspension( and brakes)

Yes a lot of highway mile, just replace airbags on rear, $300.00 total cost, ordered bags and had PEP Boys install them. about 100K in town miles.
Care to share where you got the bags for $300 ???

Smart autocare extended warranty: what has been your experience with them?
Trying to decide between HMA (3/36 for 3K), Penske (6/70 for 3.5K). Should I look at smart auto care?
