  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello everyone, just created this account on this site hoping to see if anyone can provide me some insight about the reliability of the 2016 3.8. I have been in the market for a vehicle and for the past 4 years I have been seeing the 2nd Gen Genesis depreciating to my price range. I just thought it was a good timing to purchase a Genesis. I see a 2016 3.8 with 36k miles and it is certified pre-owned for $20k.

1. Is it a good value?
2. How is the reliability so far?

Thank you

The 2016 is a bit better than the 2015 for electronics. Overall very reliable. Just keep in mind, any car, any brand, with the technology inside today can be expensive to fix compared to your old Chevy. See what they are offering for warranty.

Very low miles for the car too, should give you many years of service. There are 3 levels and you don't indicate which one; that affects the price. If the center consul has a knob it is the Ultimate.

I apologize, yes I believe it’s 2nd package ( Not sure of the actual trim name ) it has the panoramic roof and the 14 Lexicon speaker system. My main thing that I look for is the reliability and sound system. I’ve heard that the base 7 speaker system isn’t that much different than the 14 speaker, that’s another thing I would like to find out as well. If the 7 speaker isn’t much different from the 14 speaker, I may look into the base model.

Thank you

My advice would be for you to listen to the audio systems yourself and then judge for yourself. You are going to buy and drive the car, so why base you decision on someone else opinion?

I have a base '19 G80 which is three years evolved from the '16 Genesis and it has the 7 speaker system. Boy, do I miss the sound system on my Infiniti G37. Would love to have the 14 or 17 speaker system. If you like to hear good sound in the car, go for the better system.

But you need to hear it for yourself, if possible. Bring some songs you're familiar with on a USB stick so you can compare apples to apples.

Thank you guys I greatly appreciate, and yes it is true I was planning on comparing both of the sound systems but my biggest concern is the reliability. Have heard the issues about the head unit being constantly replaced. Has anyone experienced head unit or any other mechanical/electrical problems?

I have seen a few posts about radio issues, but considering all those who don't have issues - I would not consider it a HUGE problem. Understand that folks who are mad & upset post a lot more on forums than those who are happy.

I have a 2015 3.8 awd with tech package/14 speaker sound system at 41000 miles. Purchased as a CPO two years ago.

My windows will occasionally not roll up or down and I have to kind of do a hard reset on the switches (holding down, then up, etc.) to get them to work.

No other gremlins to report. Car has been a blast to drive. I do my own top side oil changes and bring into the shop for anything else that may be needed.

I rate my experience 8.5/10, on par with my previous Lexuses.

Hope this helps

I also have a 2015 3.8 Tech. Zero issues so far
40k miles. Dealer oil change (free) every 5k.
Cleaned induction system once @ about 30k.
Getting 28mpg hwy.

80K on my 2015 5.0 Ultimate, still going strong. Previous owner replaced H/U under warranty in 2016. Had a couple of electrical hiccups that were solved by removing & reinserting fuses.

Hello Lordsho...I purchased a Casablanca White 2016 Ultimate w/14K miles last fall from a private owner in Fla(I'm in MI). Paid 24K( less Mi sales tax/plate fees) this also included the extended transferable 10 bumper to bumper warranty which helped seal the deal btw. Love..love..love the car!! Have only put around 2K miles on it(kept in garage for winter here to avoid road salt)..No issues what so ever to this point. This is a great forum to learn from a lot of the members about these cars. Look for any reason to drive it now we are out of "salt season" 😉 . Also enjoy the sound system..seems I like it a little louder than my wife so I tell her from time to time...I am going for a ride so I can crank it up a bit!! hope you get one that gives you years of trouble free ownership..

Yeah man for sure. Love my 15 Ultimate 5.0 I have owned it for 13 months now 34k and just runs Awesome. I think they are just like any other automobile, take good care of it and it will take good care of you!👍

Thank you to everyone that has invested their time to reply to my question! I am going to take a look at the next week hopefully it’s still there lol if not I’m sure I’ll come across another nice deal!

Not to mention that most of the Head Units that crapped out did so early on - the one in my 2015 Ultimate was replaced in 2016. Don't seem to hear too much about the replacements croaking.
