Removing front license?

I didn't realize till it was too late, but I much prefer the Genesis without a front license plate. Unfortunately the dealer put a front plate on without giving the option, when I would have preferred not.

Question: does anyone know how likely it would be that I'd get pulled over for no license on front? (In California, if that makes a diff)

Also, once the plate assembly is removed, is there realistically any way to restore the bumper or will there be unfixable drill holes? (which is what I'd guess)

On the way to work today I counted that roughly 1 out of 20 cars on the SF Bay Area highway didn't have a front license, mostly the MBs, Teslas and other high end makes.

My hub says its not worth the hassle, but I can't help but long for an unaltered front bumper. Am I nuts?

Would welcome POV with anyone with knowledge of this scenario, and whether its worth going down this path or not.

I think this has been discussed before, but I think there are several ways you can solve this problem. 1. Just take off your front license plate and leave the license plate holder in place (it does not look so bad in my opinion). 2. Take off the plate + holder and buy one of those plugs and paint it to match your car 3. If you don't like the look of the either options, then you can have the body shop patch the holes and paint it, but I don't think it's worth the money. If I were you, I would probably go with option 1 or 2. I did not put my front license plate and so far I haven't been pulled over for that. Just FYI, I live around LA county. Well if you do get caught, the police will probably give you a fix-it ticket.

I suspect that one problem the police have is that it is hard to see both the front and back at the same time, and the police may assume that if there is no front that the car is new with temp tags, or from a state that does not require them, and that is how people get away with it. But that is just a guess. Also, if the police see an oncoming car without a front license, it would be hard to turn around and find them.

thanks and you're right, I think I recall seeing a thread about this and I'm having a delayed reaction after letting it simmer in my psyche for a few weeks. I would not go so far as to have it repaired but I may take the plate off, leave the base, and see if that satisfies my instinct for an unaltered front end. Good call, thanks.

Is it really worth taking the chance? I have known of people getting tickets for no front plate here in SoCal. It's not a fix it ticket. And I have gotten pulled over before for no plate but didn't get a ticket. It just gives them a reason to pull you over.

I moved mine up from where the dealer had mounted it so that it was more in the middle of the bumper. The dealer used the upper holes in the mount and I used the lower ones.

Generally, no LEO will pull you over for not having a front plate in Ca. There is usually something else you are doing that gets their attention and then it becomes a reason, but a front plate is required in Ca. period.

That being said, I have never had a plate on the front of the E55 or on the A6 and have never been questioned. When I bought the E at Fletcher Jones, the sales guy handed me the plate holder and bracket and told me they would put it on if I wanted. Some cars have a location "built in" and in that case, who cares? Hyundai dealers should ask, the Genesis/Equus aren't in the same market as an Accent.

I live in Ohio where we are supposed to have a front plate, the states surrounding me only have the back plate. The dealer did not install the front plate holder. I'm told it is a $25 ticket for no front plate, I'm also told the "I'm waiting for the plate holder to come in" is a good excuse. As I was discussing this with folks at work they say that the cops like the front plate for reflecting radar/laser.

I too much prefer the no front license plate look, as well as the lack of badging on the front of the Genesis (I've switched emblems on wheels, trunk & steering wheel, but much prefer the no hood ornament look).

haha i got one too...i street parked mine and when i came back i had a ticket....the meter still had time left in it. I opened to the ticket and the reason for it? No front license....I thought only cops could stop you for it and give you ticket, but while parked? And it was from the parking enforcement too...
