  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just dropped my car off for a clear bra and the new Llumar Air Blues 80% (42% heat rejection) tint on my front window.

The side and rear windows on these cars already have a fairly dark tint (that looks great) however it is most likely a dyed tint and thus has minimal heat rejection.

Can anyone confirm the type of tint that comes factory? I ask because I am going to replace it w/ some Pinnacle ceramic, however I would hate wasting $290 if the factory tint is already one with high heat rejection.

Thanks.

Interesting enough, I haven't seen any info on the Genesis windows performance data, although I'm sure it's somewhere. It's good, but I'm sure adding a ceramic to the existing windows would make it outstanding.

Random - Here's the windshield VLT

Any window tinting for the factory glass is embedded inside the glass and cannot be removed. If your windows have some tint film on the glass (not in the glass), that is a dealer added tint film, not factory, and yes, it is probably one of the cheapest tint films they could find.

Factory tinting that is embedded in most auto glass doesn't have the kind of heat rejection you will find in a high end ceramic tint film. There may be some exceptions on specialized vehicles, but not on the Genesis.

Awesome info, guys. So Visible Light Transmittance is how much is getting through.

76% is not that good, lower #'s are better, yes? Then again, maybe it is OK if the heat rejection is still good? Please educate me:)

Pinnacle 35 is 39% It has a heat rejection score of 54%.

Air blue 80% (what I am doing on the front) has a VLT of 78% and an HR of 43%

This car has a huge front window and the South Texas heat (102 today) really is brutal.

76% is the factory windshield. It is not supposed to be dark, and almost all states prohibit adding any after-market tint film to the windshield (except for the top 6" of the glass). As mentioned before, a factory auto-glass tint is usually just a slightly darker color than so-called clear glass, not usually with any special heat rejection. Even though technically illegal, you usually can get away with adding a very high VLT tint film to your windshield, especially if your other windows are tinted with something a lot darker (so hard to tell that the windshield has any tint film on it).

Even a single pane of "clear" glass that you get at a hardware store has about 90 VLT and a double-pane window has about 81 VLT, and these are not even "tinted".

VLT is Variable Light Transmission = How much light is going through the film. Darker the better depends on preference, although in general a darker film blocks more heat & glare vs. lighter. Now if you can imagine a dark ceramic film = Grand Slam.

Re: Dr jitsu Did you have yours tinted?

I see that your in Surgar Land, Tx, I live in Richmond, Tx. We just got a Silver/Black Signature on Aug 26, 2011 and its all the a/c can do to keep car cool in traffic. I was wondering if you had your windows tinted and if you did would you recommend the shop you used?

Go to Xpert tint, they are up 59, just past Frys. Ask for Sunny.

I did the high tech Llumar 80% air blue on the front window (it can't really be detected yet still cuts about 40% of heat and UV rays). These cars get massive heat from the huge font windshield.

I did darker tint on the rest of the car.
