Has anyone replaced their ac compressor and if you have, can you share what steps did you take to complete the task. Thanks
Like mentioned above the easier way to change a AC compressor pump is to let a repair shop do it.
It you want to attempt the job yourself you will need AC specific tools like a vacuum pump, recovery pump and recovery tank(if system still has refrigerant), AC manifold gauge set with R134a fittings, new desiccate pack, and the specific amount of refrigerant and PAG oil for your system.
This is a general rundown of the process.
First step: Remove the refrigerant from the system by using the recovery pump and storage tank. If the AC system is already empty then skip this step.
Second step: Remove the AC compressor.
Third step: Install the new compressor with the proper amount of PAG oil and with new line o-rings.
Fourth step: Use the vacuum pump and AC gauge set to pull and hold a -30psi vacuum for an hour to check for leaks in the AC system and to remove air and boil away moisture in the AC system.
Fifth step: If the system holds a vacuum then replace the desiccate pack in the condenser and pull a vacuum again.
Sixth step: If the system holds a -30psi vacuum for an hour; then charge the system with proper level of refrigerant. Done
Note: This is just a basic run down of the process if the failed compressor did not contaminate the AC system with debris. If so; then you will have to flush the AC system after step 2 to remove the contaminates and then pull the vacuum to boil away the flushing agent, moisture and air.
Here is good video that breaks the process down as well with additional video links to the entire process.
