  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I would like to replace the front turn signals with LEDs. I watched videos about how to get to the headlights and driving lights (and already replaced those). I removed the air box, moved the fuse box, etc. I can easily reach the turn signal housing. I disconnected the wiring harness, turned the turn signal harness a 1/8 turn for it to unlock, and it can rotate in the housing, but no matter what I do, it doesn't come out. This is true for both sides.

Is there a trick to getting the turn signal harness out of the headlight housing? Do I need to remove the headlight assembly and unscrew something? I haven't found a good video about replacing the turn signals on a Genesis with the refreshed "swoosh" light in between the headlight and driving light.

Interesting thread. My 2014 has LED turn signals that remained working perfectly after "tagging" at deer at 65mph. Insurance paid for a new complete light. Maybe that is when they changed over.

Nothing special in my manual about that bulb.

I believe I know the problem I ran into. The thing I was trying to take out was the entire headlight wiring harness. That's not the turn signal bulb (though it's right behind where the bulb is). Looking at ebay photos of the full headlight assembly, it appears that the turn signal bulb on this style headlight is accessed from the bottom of the assembly.

This is the bottom view. I believe the round twisting object to the right of the yellow box is the turn signal housing. At least I hope it is. What I was trying to take out by mistake was the wiring harness, which is above that same round twisting object.

Well so much for Hyundai updating the 2012 manual with the actual 2012 parts.

Glad you figured it out.

I hope I figured it out! I'm probably going to try again this weekend. Work always gets in the way of fun projects.

If that manual is from your 4.6 Genesis, it would have the old style headlights (which you referred to). Sometime in 2012 (maybe it was a 2012.5 thing?), Hyundai went from the 3.8 and 4.6 port injected engines to the 3.8 and 5.0 GDi engines. The models with the GDi engines received the facelift and updated headlights.

All 2012's had all the updated body (bumpers, rockers, lights, etc.), which included the 4.6 (at least in the USA). Only the engines were changed mid-year, and it was the only year they produced all three v8 trims: 4.6, 5.0 and 5.0 RSPEC.

It's just a service data error. Oh well.

I spent some time yesterday and confirmed that the turn signal bulb is accessed under the headlight assembly. But... the bulb in the refresh is an odd psy24w bulb. Amazon matched the wrong bulb, and this one in particular is rather unpopular in LED. I did find one but it has mixed reviews. I'm going to leave them as is.

This gave me a chance to replace the fogs with LEDs - so much brighter!

The fog lights are very dim, I hardly ever use them.

In the 12 years of having this car, I haven't used them either. Like you said, too dim and didn't provide any benefit.

I haven't tried the LEDs at night yet. Looking forward to trying. Will report back how it works out.

While the LED bulbs in the fog lights now match the HID's (replaced a couple years ago with Osram Xenarc Cool Blue Intense), the light pattern is a mystery. They seems not just light what's immediately in front of the car, but light also leaks to above the headlight cutoff. Not sure what the engineers were thinking.
