  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Report on Exploding Sunroofs

They prefer to make the pano sunroofs noisy, rather than explosive.

Gotta account for the expansion and what not like a race motor loose lives.

Translation?

In a race motor the ring gap and various bearing clearances are set a few thousands looser to account for high rpm or boost duties for heat expansion, too tight on clearances is bad. Not even sure why I used that for the pano roof.

Mine didn't quite explode - just blown to bits by a hail storm

The glass is 1/6 inch think - not much

After reading about it exploding, I'm gonna get it wrapped with a clear 3m wrap, this way at least it will hold it together if it shatters.

My '15 Genesis Ultimate's front pano panel blew up on a cold, snowy day last winter going down the interstate at 70 mph. Scared the bejeezus out of me. I am certain nothing hit the roof. I think the temperature differential between the exterior and heated interior caused it. Dealer replaced under warranty.

Man, that sucks, I'm gonna get a piece of 3m clear bra and cover it, some extra insurance I guess since I will be doing the bumper.

I received a notification of a class action lawsuit settlement concerning Genesis' exploding sunroofs a couple of weeks ago.

I filled out a form and sent a copy of my repair order from the dealership in order to get $200 for inconvenience and psychological pain and suffering.

Mine was covered by warranty, but Hyundai will also reimburse people who incurred expenses getting theirs fixed, including renting a replacement ride.

The rest of us got a notice of PROPOSED settlement. Let us know when you get your $200.

I have not received any notice about the pano roof for our 2015 Ultimate CPO Genesis sedan purchased August 2018. I wonder what criteria Hyundai is using to notify owners, or second owners.

Notice did not come from Hyundai. It is from the lawyers for the class action lawsuit.

When it exploded, did it just shatter into a million tiny safety pieces? Seems like they should make it the same way they do a windshield so that if it breaks it stays glued together.

Spugger - yes, a million tiny pieces that fell inside and outside the car.

It took several vacuuming sessions to get all of them little buggers out of the interior nooks and crannies, and the ones that blew back with the wind stream outside the car scratched the remaining pano glass and trunk lid.

Hyundai paid to repaint the trunk.

Ed - I just received this email today:

Good Day

Your claim was submitted successfully. Claims are expected to be paid around 30 days after the Final Approval hearing. Please check back after 9/10/2019.

Thank you!

OK, this is not money in hand, but I have faith that the Final Approval Hearing goes smoothly and I'll see that check someday.

Hey Ed - I just received and activated my pre-paid $200 Hyundai Mastercard for my exploding pano roof back in 2017.
