  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm thinking about a 2022 or 2023 6-cylinder G70 to replace my current car, a 2014 Mercedes SL550 I've had for 3 years. Been a great car but it just hit 70K miles and with higher mileage, maintenance can get expensive. I'm thinking a G70 would have enough performance so I won't miss the SL that much. The only thing I don't know about is quality and this forum will be the best place to find out.

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up. I'm glad you found us! You've come to the best place to research the Genesis G70 with input from the most actual owners in any one place. Personally, I don't think you're going to notice any difference in power. I've never driven an SL so I'm not sure how they are as far as handling - but I'll assume that being a smaller car, it'll probably out-handle the G70.

Thanks for the welcome. As for the SL, I had no idea how pwerful it was until I first drove it. The twin turbo V8 has 429 HP and 516 pounds of torque. From what I've read so far The G70 looks like it has plenty of power. And it's a great looking car. I'm going to drive one at a dealership this afternoon. I'll post after I get back.

Looking forward to your thoughts...

Well, long day. Checked out the 2023 G70 at the Genesis dealership. Looks like a go. Car looks terrific in person. It's a Capri Blue 3.3 Sport Prestige with the light color interior It's quite stunning and the performance was up there. Price looks to be $40k give or take a couple hundred. Car has 3000 miles on it. There's also a gray one there, also Sport Prestige with 1800 miles for same money. What do you think?

I'm glad to find you liked the G70 - especially when you're already driving an excellent luxury vehicle. The G70 is hard to beat for the money, isn't it? As for color, I like gray because it looks clean the longest after a wash. :p The blue is really nice, though...

I'd say for the money, the G70 is impossible to beat. As for colors, I keep going back and forth. Both are really great colors. Supposed to go back Tuesday to get one of them, as long as there are no financial add on surprises

Sounds like a steal for an almost-new car! Especially a 3.3. Good luck and enjoy.

Welcome aboard!!!

Nice SL car! Beautiful, actually.
Glad you are interested in the G70. I just got mine in July and still smiling when I drive it. Love the car.

Good luck!

That's the one hitch. The cost of the dealership "Admin fees" is unknown at the moment. I realize those are pretty much extra profit but if they run into a couple grand, the deal will fall apart. I told the salesman I'd like to see their out-the-door price before I come down on Tuesday. I should be getting that this afternoon. Time wil tell.

...fingers crossed...

Sorry for not answering sooner. Good news and bad news. Good news: Got the car. Couldn't work out the deal on the blue one. Went with the gray with light gray interior, 1815 miles. It turned out to be $43,000 and change. Having said that, it's designated as a CPO, which added dollars and also value. It also comes with a couple years of free "Genesis Connected Services."

Bottom line, more than I wanted to spend but way less than a new one. I also made out on the trade. They gave me $21,000 on my 2014 SL550 with 70,000 miles on it. While the SL looked great, it was approaching some maintenance issues in the near future, including plugs and wires, tires, electronically adjustable shocks and a problem with the top not opening properly. Shocks alone could be in the $5k - $8k range.

Oh yeah, I called the insurance company to get the same coverage for the G70 that I had on the SL. That reduced my premium by $85.

Sounds like a lot of win there. Good for you! So how is the change? What do you miss about the Mercedes-Benz SL500?

At this point I don't miss a thing. Oops I take it back. The SL550 didn't have as much programming needed to operate it. The G70 programming is a tad daunting. Having said that, the G70 ride is smoother, the stereo is better and the performance is even, if not better.

Pretty amazing... And the programming will become second nature over time. It's really great to hear you're so happy with the G70. The playing field has been leveled...

Congrats.
You're going to love your G70. (y)

Congrats on your purchase! I just took delivery of a '23 3.3 Sport (Sport Prestige in American) AWD in Savile Silver with the red interior. Is yours the same silver, or is it the darker Makalu Grey? I really liked the Makalu - the 2016 CTS I traded in was a similar "Phantom Grey" - but hated the colour with black wheels.

And, with all of the darker/deeper colours the maintenance is much more of a headache - they look great when they are new and clean, but really hard to keep that way. I'm picky enough that the swirls and haze drive me nuts, so the dark grey turned out to be a bad choice for me for my daily driver, hence the silver this time.

I've only put about 100kms on the car so far, but really liking it. I'm trying to follow the break-in rules (keeping the RPMs down, varying engine speed, and not giving it too much throttle), but it's really hard not to go and flog it - it feels like it's begging to be driven hard! At least with your 1800 miles you don't have to think about that any more!!!

PS - your SL was gorgeous! no matter how much you enjoy your G70 you'll probably miss that car... other than the repair and maintenance costs.

I saw a silver one at the dealership. Beautiful car but it had the black interior and I was looking for a light color. My G70 is the Makalu Gray with a light gray interior. It's a ball to drive. The SL was a great looking car and with 429 horsepower and 516 ft-lb of torque, that twin turbo V8 could push you back in the seat. It sounded impressive too. But it was time to move on and the G70 feels like the right choice. How do you like the AWD? The handling must be amazing.

That’s a great colour combo! I trust you live in a climate that lets you keep the outside clean, and don’t have kids to mark up the inside!

I took delivery of mine on the winter tires, and I’m doing my best to baby it during the break in. But I did drive an already broken in demo for a day (identical car, even the colour combo) on the summer tires and was really happy with the RWD feel of the AWD system… it would let you throttle steer but the front would help pull it out… very similar feel to BMW xDrive. IMHO a system like that gives you best of both worlds. I’ve had RWD on my winter cars before, but I’d get stuck a couple of times each year (even with good winter tires). But I’m also well aware that the AWD can give a false sense of security, as you accelerate better, potentially turn a little better, but stop just as bad. In ice racing we used to say that AWD just took you further into the snowbank or ditch!
