  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I purchased a “new to me” 2021 G70 3.3t with 15k miles on it a month ago. A week after purchase I noticed that the coolant was low so I filled it to F. Fast forward to present time and it’s really low but I do not see any VISIBLE leaks. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hmm. Any signs the car was previously tuned? Any smoke out the rear when on the gas?

Do you notice a smell of coolant after driving it? Apparently many Genesis/Hyundai/Kia owners do, including myself. I've looked for leaks and I've had the dealer look for leaks, but found nothing. There's a thread about coolant smell on this forum (I'm not savvy enough to provide the link for you).
I've noticed a slow drop in coolant level, over a period of months, and have added some a few times in the four years I've owned my G70. Your "leak" (?) sounds worse than that.
It's worth a trip to the dealer to see if they can find anything.

Thanks for your reply. I don’t believe it’s been tuned and I haven’t noticed any smoke.

Thanks for your reply. I definitely notice a smell of coolant after driving. Yep I’ll go to the dealer soon.

I had an auto years ago that was leaking coolant thru the intake manifold, getting burned up with the gas, and going out the exhaust. So, no detectable leaks. They redid the intake manifold gasket and the issue was resolved.

Yeah, that's why I was asking if the car was previously tuned. Under high boost/cylinder pressure the head can lift because the head bolts stretch. This causes the head gasket to go...

I see. Mine was simply a defective gasket on a Pontiac Grand Prix.

Keep driving that one and you augur it down, straight to the roadside and then on the hook to your favorite shop. Happened to me with two cars, 20-30 years ago. One under recall other on my wallet.

If the smell is coming from the passenger side of the engine I would check the thermostat and temperature control unit. It is very difficult to see leaks in this area due to the fact they are on the backside of the engine.

I had a similar experience. Purchased my 2020 G70 3.3t w/ 24k miles. A few days after purchase I noticed the coolant was almost out. After topping it off, the coolant level is holding steady. The engine is definitely consuming coolant, but not at a crazy rate.

I read somewhere that this engine leaks/consumes coolant if you push it while the engine is cold. My car was on the lot for a few cold months before I purchased it. What probably happened was the dealer filled the coolant upon getting the car, then test drivers beat on it while cold. I am pretty diligent about letting the car warm up which probably slowed the leakage.

Do you have any updates on what the dealer said?
