  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am returning home from 3 months away. For insurance purposes I disconnected my battery located in trunk of my 2015 Hyundai Genesis. I tried to open trunk using fob “key” but the “keyhole” under the lid of the trunk seems sealed…the key wont go in. Any helpful suggestions?

Thank you.

Squirt a little WD-40 on it?
Push harder?
Put a jump pack on the jump terminals under the hood and use the trunk button in the cabin?

Didn't think that one through, eh? :) If you have a battery charger - there is a positive post inside the box under the hood, near the firewall on the passengers side.

Then pop the circle cap open just over the passenger tire - and underneath you will find a negative post. Attach there. That should give you enough juice to get the trunk open. Be sure to disconnect the charger, reconnect the battery, and then reconnect the charger to the posts (your battery is likely flat).

You need to use a thin screwdriver to pop the cap off.
Did the 2015 have a cap over the keyhole? My 2018 does not, and the 2015 manual that I have does not mention one either.

I do think there is a metal shutter in the key slot that the key pushes out of the way as you insert it, but no cap.

Ah - not sure. I never had to use it. Just figured it was capped - similar to the door handles. It may be crudded up, or someone may have filled it with superglue, too. :)

Hi there, thanks for this. Was able to insert the key but it does not turn either direction and pressing trunk Release button in cabin does not work…

Hit it with WD40 or some other penetrating spray. Were you able to use the battery post methods I or joegr mentioned above to get the trunk open?

Your trunk key might not be correctly cut if it will not twist in the lock. There is an access port to the trunk behind the center armrest. The owner's manual plus a flashlight might reveal a lever. A broomstick or paint roller extension configured with a leather strap might trip the lever. Let us know what worked for you.
