Reverse Camera, rolling flicker

Hi everybody,

Having an issue with my backup camera on my 2015 Genesis (Ultimate).

3 days ago, I shifted into reverse and got a really bad rolling flicker. Best thing I can compare it to is the scan lines scrolling down on an old TV.

Next time, same day, put it in reverse and was greeted by a blue screen.

Since then, the rolling flicker continues to happen, albeit to a lesser degree.


For information's sake, both the backup camera and head unit were previously replaced at the dealer approximately 18 months ago.


Any ideas on what the issue might be? Hardware failure? Wiring? Anything I can check quickly without scheduling a dealer appointment and being without my car for another week or two?

I have a similar issue. This is common on these cars. (The wiring harness that has the camera wires gets repeatedly kinked when the trunk opens and closes and can cause shorting of the wires. It is the subject of a TSB)

If you had the head unit and camera replaced 18 months ago, it is probable that the dealer followed the TSB. But they may have done a crappy job with the wiring. I'd check the wiring again. I am currently dealing with a camera that works intermittently, but I think the dealer just did a bad wiring job, as I can fiddle with the new wire that goes to the PGS module and the camera works.

I had the same problem. Its probably the harness in the trunk. Its not hard to get to. Take your time removing the carpeting and its a 15 min job from there. Theres a braket that causes this just remove it and toss it if the dealer hasn't already.

Floor wiring harness

We are at 61k miles on our 2015 sedan and unfortunately our rear camera stopped working. The dealer took a look and said the floor wiring harness 'wore out from opening/closing of the trunk' and it will cost $5k to repair. I'm curious if this is bad luck (just out of warranty) or bad design...

This little pos has probably cost a lot of people a lot of money. Btw if you do need a new camera I do have a brand new one (oem). The place I bought the car from thought it was a faulty camera. It was never installed. But sry for the ramble ya check your cables lol.
