  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I previously owned a 2016 Genesis with the adaptive suspension (Ultimate) and loved the comfortable ride. I had to get rid of it due to moving into a home with a small garage. Now I miss that ride so much and am wondering if I may get a similar ride with the G70 (which will fit in my garage). It's all about comfort to me, but a sporty ride is an added bonus.

I haven’t driven either...but in comparison to my other cars....Comfort is great.

To some extent, a sporty ride and a luxurious ride are at odds with one another. That's not to say that every luxury ride is utterly un-sporting and every sporty ride lacks luxury. Get above the $150,000 mark and you can find cars a few cars that really do do both at pretty much the same time. But the soft, cushy ride we think of as optimally luxurious is arrived at by dampening a lot of the road sensations while a responsive ride is one that telegraphs information about what's happening between the car and road to the driver. Adjustable ride parameters (like the driving modes in the Genesis) can push the feel toward one or the other pole a bit but I think cars have a certain character that settings can't completely negate. In the cars I've driven with such capabilities (including the G80), resetting really didn't fundamentally alter the nature of the car. So, I would expect a comfortable ride from a G70 but not as comfortable as a G80. Nor would I want that. The fundamental character of a car like the G70 is its sporting nature -- at least that's my hope and expectation. It isn't a sports car but it is a sports sedan. If it rode like the G80, frankly, I'd be surprised and disappointed. The G80 is considerably heavier and that has a big influence on its feel. And it's biased toward comfort. That's intentional and appropriate, especially given that Genesis is now making the G70. The latter should have more emphasis on responsiveness and nimbleness while the G80's emphasis is on comfort and isolation from the external environment. Of course, both have some of the other's characteristics but I think they should be quite distinctive in their feel.

G70 without adaptive suspension = decent mix between firm and soft, definitely firmer than any G80. You can tell it is on the sporty side but the ride is nicely balanced especially for a compact sport sedan.

G70 with adaptive suspension = softer than above in Comfort mode but not quite G80 soft. In a G80 I could run over minor potholes with no issues but with a G70 I would prefer to go around them (which is more fun, anyway). In Sport mode, it is stiffer than every other Genesis but not back-breakingly stiff like an M car or my 997.1's PASM sport suspension.

TL;DR - G70's ride is stiffer than the G80 but it is pretty good for a short wheelbase compact luxury sport sedan.
