  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Carroll Shelby, a Texas chicken farmer turned hot-rodder who went on to build innovative sports cars like the Cobra that challenged Europe’s longtime dominance of road racing, as well as high-performance versions of production cars like the Ford Mustang, died on Thursday in Dallas. He was 89.

Here's Bill Cosby's account of meeting Mr. Shelby and getting a Cobra built just for him...enjoy it, it's a classic.

"This 1966 Shelby Cobra Super Snake 427-cu.in. 800HP twin supercharged V8 was originally configured as a competition car, and then retrofitted by Shelby American as a street vehicle. It was one of two dual blown Cobras built; the other was built for entertainer Bill Cosby. It was used by Shelby, and probably because of that fact, the bidding reached the record high of $5 million plus commission of 10%, final price $5.5 million at Barrett-Jackson, Scottsdale, Arizona 1/18/07."

RIP

While he may be the name assoicated with some famous cars, there is a lot of myth that surrounds him and his legacy.

He despises Cobra "kit" cars (Has sued several of them, and lost) even though his Cobra was a kit. AC car with a Ford motor. Ford owns the name Cobra, not him.

He claims to have built the Cobra yet all he did was take a AC roadster and found a company that would sell him a motor. Chevy turned him down first.

Moon, of Moon eyes fame, built the first Cobra in his shop.

Shelby did nothing more than assemble a bunch of smart guys and then used his name to gain the fame. Granted he was a succesful driver, but that's about it. The rest of his fame came from those who had to work for him.

Sorry to seem so blunt, but he's done a lot of bad to a lot of people over the years. Including his "Charity" That dosen't give out much.

That sounds like another car builder. A guy by the name of Enzo Ferrari!!!

What about Ferruccio Lamborghini?
