  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

ok... here is my question. is there a way to use the rotrex supercharger for the coupe on the sedan? 450 hp out of the v6... does that sound good or no?

As long as the ECU is cracked, i would imagine anything is possible. Uncertain as to whether you would need to change internals, or if the stock tranny and clutch could handle the added power. I would reach out to companies like BTR to see.

Add fuel injectors to that list as well. No NA Hyundai I've seen has ever been able to keep up with the fuel demands of a forced induction transplant.

Also, as far as "cracking" the ECU. It hasn't been done for the sedan so you would have to scrap it and get a standalone unit like the AEM EMS to tune all of the parameters for the supercharger. Have fun with that - I did a piggy back tune on my Elantra, which is minor compared to standalone, and it was a PITA as there was no pre-made harness for my application.

The Coupe has canned tune ECU swaps from a handful of vendors, but it's not compatible with the sedan (I've asked) and I've yet to see one for the V6 that accommodates FI.

Keep in mind also that your '13 3.8 is already running at a very high compression ratio (compared to port injected) due to GDI. Now you want to add FI? That's a lot of pressure and heat on an engine that has no design precedent currently running FI from the factory.

Sorry to be pessimistic, but the casual member who brings up things like this (happens in every car forum) is typically unaware of all of the baggage that comes with such a large modification. It's usually a pie-in-the-sky drive by question.

Unless you have a lot a knowledge, money, and time (not to mention another daily driver) it's not practical let alone feasible. I think I've seen such a project come to fruition exactly one time.

The Rotrex supercharger on the Coupe was not a success, in fact the stateside vendor (And tuner) for the Rotrex kit removed it from their website and stopped offering support for it. One of the few kits sold in the US has passed through a couple of hands (And a couple of engine rebuilds).

As far as the 3.8 Sedan ECU, BTR says they can do the 3.8 Sedan (But not the 4.6 or 5.0). Not sure if it is canned or custom, as I only found this out with their upcoming tuning event in NC.

Now for the 3.8 GDI and FI, it's been done and successfully without changing the compression ratio. TurboKits has a single turbo kit out for the Coupe making some pretty impressive numbers (And it's cheaper than the non-GDI kit because fueling on the GDI is more than sufficient for moderate FI boost).

If you really are interested, I would recommend donating your car for R&D to TurboKits.com, from what I've seen in the past, donors get 50% off the price of the kit for donating their car for fitting.

yea, i was thinking that might be a good idea someone might not have thought of. I was looking at some sema show stuff. they got the 15 genny from ark performance with their modded 5.0. just seeing if anyone here thinks its possible to do. I didnt know that the coupe rotrex sc was discontinued. well, thanks for the comments. yeah, im just a regular ol' joe trying to stir up some conversation up in this forum.

In one of my Coupe facebook groups, this picture got posted by a Korean owner:

Everyone started lamenting about how lucky he is to be in Korea where he can get any performance part he wants. He replied a little confused, and English somewhat broken, turns out his engine was shipped to and built by Pavel's Racing Engines in Illinois and was tuned by a company in the US as well.

The old adage is true, anything is possible with enough money.

So they're running a turbo on the stock ECU?
