H all,
So I noticed that a rubber seal between the front and rear panoramic sunroof panels has rotted.
I haven’t noticed any problems associated with this. No leaks or anything.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so, did you get it replaced and how much was it?

Car is a 2015 5.0. It has spent it’s early life in the Southeast.

Amazing!! never would have thought something like that would not result in water leaking somewhere...I would get it to a dealer ASAP to check and hopefully replace for you under warranty..hopefully. I try to keep all rubber seals(doors/trunk/hood and pano window rubber "lubed" up as best I can to keep them soft and pliable.Seems like as they age they get hard and dry and crack a bit more often.Have used spray silicone or an amor all type product over the years with good results and no major failure of the rubber gasket sealing ability..ooops looks like a hit a wrong key earlier to result in the above post...my bad...sorry

Hey Markymark, I guess if you plan on keeping the car I would get it fixed
Seems like it can cause other problems. I too use silicone spray on all my vehicles weather stripping. I chose down a rag really well with the stuff and spray the rubber itself and let it soak up and hit it again and let it sit then wipe it down with silicone spray soaked towel
It seems to really help. Makes the rubber come alive/more pliable. These cars seem like they don't like to sit in the sun/heat. My 15 5.0 came from upstate Minnesota and I have no issues like fading or weather strip issues? Good luck keep us posted on the repair if you decide to fix it.👍

Well, it’s been absolutely pouring here for a day and no water ingress (as far aa I can tell).

You chaps can understand my reluctance to just take it to the dealer as I took my Genny in last august for a bad backup camera and it took 5 weeks to get it back.

Yes I can understand based on your past experience... Couldn't they have ordered the part you needed and set up an appointment with you when it came in so you would not be without your car other than for a day or so... Not weeks?? Or do you have to travel a long distance to the dealer you use?

Hello,

I saw this post and checked my recent 2015 Genesis purchase. It also has the same bad seal, looks very similar. Have you had it replaced since the last post? I'm curious of the cost and repair time, if so.

I checked out the shop manual and, from what I can tell it, requires removing the front sliding glass and the back glass to replace the ~ $30 rubber seal. I'm fairly confident with a lot of repairs but haven't replaced/resealed glass before and fear making it worse and causing a leak. Maybe if it was dry summer where I live I'd give it a shot.

I'm taking with my dealer as well but they're wanting to look at it. I just haven't had a chance to take it in. I was curious how others have faired with this.

I have not had it replaced. It appears that any water getting in should (?) find it's way to a sunroof drain. I think there is a drain line. It doesn't make any noise either.
I am fearful of taking my beloved Gennie to the dealership as they took 5 weeks to repair my backup camera. Also, big it costs moula to replace a seal like that.

I would take that in asap. I would assume that there is some drain in the sunroof but with that much rot sooner or later that drain will clog up with debris which will then leak into the car and chances are Hyundai will not cover any interior damage. With all the issues they have with these roofs I would assume they would fix the seal under warranty and if not contact corporate and I'm sure they will.

I suppose the repairs are only as good as the the guy making the repairs. Its very hard to find someone whom takes pride in what they do? Unfortunately

We were sold a new Genesis 80 WITH the entire roof seal cracked and rotted. Sure it's going to be replaced but what recourse have we? Loma Linda, CA dealership.

If the car was sold as is without a warranty, then nothing you can do most likely but replace the rotted rubber seals on your own. However, you could bring the problem up with the dealership and hopefully they will fix out of good will.

If the car is new as you described; then sunroof seals would be covered by the bumper-to-bumper warranty and be replaced for free by a dealership.
